TEQUILA - taken from the "duty free" website
with so many choices in tequila (this list is hardly definative) how would you rate these options as to 1,2,3? i am trying to learn the finer points
of tequila but trying an entire bottle and then remembering what the last bottle was like is difficult ! so far, the don julio is my favorite.

The operative word is A?ejo=aged. These tequilas are for sipping straight up in a fine crystal goblet whilst smoking a hearty hand rolled cigar, or,
straight out of the bottle while sitting crosslegged next to your Baja campfire.
1. Herradura Reposado
2. Porfidio Plata
3. Sauza Conmemorativo
These are great for a nice rocks margarita with your hand squeezed lime juice and a splash of cointreau.
1. Herradura Silver
2. Sauza Hornitos
3. El Jimador
Blend with your favorite margarita mix and rim glass with salt.
There are as many different tequilas as there are tastes. The fun is trying different ones.

Glad to see someone else thinks Herradura is the best! But, I think the plata is good for on the rocks margaritas made with fresh squeezed lime juice
and a splash of citronge (a patron product) or controy....I don't think any tequila deserves a prepared mix...and if it does, you don't want to be
drinking it.
Don't forget the salt...una margarita sin sal es como un amor sin besos!
BTW...anyone have a duty free price list?

We bought a bottle of...
Herradura Suprema - 'Edicion Limitada' at the new Costco in Ensenada on the way home...it was our xmas present to each other this year...hate to say
what it cost! It comes in a fancy type decanter in a special hinged gift box! If I'm reading the certificate that comes with it, it's been aged for
over 10 years by Casa Herradura.
We haven't popped the cork yet, trying to wait for Santa...but may not have the will power!
OK, ok,...it was shown in Costco's showcase as costing $ NP 1650.00...but was priced at $ NP 1561.48 on the sales slip, plus their 10% IVA, brought
the total to about $ NP 1718.00...(about $ 165 Dollars) now that's a bunch for a bottle of Tequila, but it just doesn't get much better! Some fancy
'Tequila Bars' sell shots of HS for anywhere up to $50 bucks! I figure we can get 'shot' for far less than the retail price! I've seen HS on several
web sites for around $225 here in the US...
We are going to have to extend our pink fingers in a real 'snobbish' way when we sip this nectar..."I wonder what the poor-people are drinking
tonight, madame...."

it is pretty hard to miss with the Sauza Tres Generacionese it is what I keep for my daily use Tequila and it is easy to find. there are others I like
better for less money but they are some times difficult to find.

Just make sure the label says "anejo" and "100% blue agave"
Expect to pay more than $25 - and consider something in the $50+ range.

Anjeo is nice only if you want to taste the smoky/woodiness of the barrel in which the tequila has aged (my personal favorite). But there are those
who say that if you want to truly taste the 'tequila', then you should choose a good repasado. My personal favorite (which seems to have dropped from
production) is the Reserva del Dueno Anejo. But of course, the best part is testing all the other brands out there!

Late 30s with no experiance in this area. Mi esposa requested a MARG. We were at the home of a friend in Bahia Kino. I went to the cubbord storing
the boose and found a container labeled VIDA. Plastic bottle with clear liquid. I could not taste anything. Thought someone had added water to fool
the owners. Next day I found this same brand in the local Super. $3.25 US. I invested but when I took a swigg, still no taste. So I drank the
whole thing. The next three days were projectal. My wife saved my life with an IV. She was a paramedic.

If you ever get the chance try Tequila San Matias. (repo)
Had it at the corner Calimax in Ensenada last Christmas for $7 and change. Hard to find in the states and spotty in Baja.

That is some mighty fine tequila. Worth the money IMEO. The bottle makes a very nice decanter when you finish,too! I have seen that in the
states for $295 - $325. We got some at the Don Pisto liquor store at Puerto Nuevo, which happens to have some very good prices and parking right up
front, for $165 give or take. We also saw that Herradura Seleccion Suprema at the TJ Costco on Saturday for the same price you paid. Good buy!
Pour two fingers of that juego de agave in a nice snifter and enjoy!

When we were kids in the 70's Rosarito Beach Hotel Saturday nights $5.00 got you in and two drink tickets. I would tell everyone I took there the
first time "Don't drink the second margarita!" They were served in a champagne glass and they would knock the s*#t out of you!. They never listened
and it would be ugly!

Ther just ain't no such thing anymore. All the really good tequilas are outrageously expensive. Compared to single malt scotch they are WAY
overpriced. I'm just glad I built a collection several years ago when I could afford it. I don't know what I'll do when I run dry. I guess I'll just
have to beg from friends.

My favorite tequila is Chinaco. Still somewhat affordable...almost.

I lived in Huntington Beach in the 80's and a restaurant opened in Irvine by the name of Tia Juana's, they have a 'long bar' fashioned after the
original and they boasted the largest collection of tequila's (100+) at the time. The most expensive they offered was Chinaco because it was difficult
to get, they would only get one or two bottles at a time, frequently would be out for weeks or months at a time and they charged around $20.00 for a
shot. The bottles were not fancy, just a nice red and gold label, but they were the first I ever saw that were hand numbered. I got to know the
manager because I was always asking what's new in the tequila department and being single with no mortgage I frequently ordered the Chinaco. I would
bring my father there for dinner on Saturday night's, he lived in San Clemente after my mom passed and we would hook up there because they had THE
best prime rib and pop's loves his prime rib. They only had it on Saturday and they would put some kind of secret recipe Azteca rub on it and it was
delish. We would always sit at the bar and the manager would greet us and my dad would have a top shelf margarita and I would have my Chinaco. After
awhile I asked the guy if he could get me a bottle of that Chinaco and to my surprise one day he did just that, no charge! Of course by then I had
brought many,many firends , family and clients to discover the joys of good tequila and spent lots of money in that place.
That bottle was the first I ever 'collected' and I actually opened that bottle of Chinaco, finally, last year when I had an old friend in town from
New Hampshire who was with me the day the guy gave it to me those many years ago. It was as good as ever.

eetdrt...Did you ever go into Tortilla Flats to the upstairs bar?? We'd always go after the fire dept meetings since it was next door to the station.
Mezcal shots with the individual little bottles and the packet of spiced salt with it...oh the damned worm!

i went to tortilla flats a few times for taco tuesday,which was great for fifty cent tacos and cheap beers,but thats all gone since they went out of
business and a new restaraunt opened there called Mozambique...which is supposed to be really good but i seriously doubt that they have a taco
