Broken toyota ....
Leaving Sisters area yesterday and come across broken surfer truck on the main road out... hood up....tools all over the ground...jacks, boxes, gear
from emptying out the back of truck in a big pile....A TOYOTA....( newer year)........poor driver covered with dirt from laying on the ground working on it....
Won't start....no fuel to engine....he had pulled out the fuel pump and it is working but no gas reaching filter....filter clean...checked hard lines
for dents but found none...must be a clog in the line from pump to filter...about 3 feet long....
Driver said he has checked fuses and they are good....while I was looking from underneath at things driver is looking underhood...and I hear .."found
another fuse for EFI and it is open".....
He gets a replacement fuse and puts it in...cranks engine....and it STARTS....(engine also has SUPERCHARGER).....
I guess what happened is he checked pump by powering it from battery and didn't check to see power while in place....
I was thinking maybe the fuse failed from vibration as he had been driving down from Catavina on way to CABO....
Lesson learned...carry spare fuses...and look for more than one fuse/relay when trouble comes.....

thanx for the reminder...
its best to prepare for these type of problems ahead of time...the smallest .10 cent part can sometimes bring your whole rig to a grinding halt

Good reminder. I'll buy spare fuses along with a fan belt and a new dry cell battery and yank strap before the run on Tuesday to Baja.

Extra thought ...it looks like there are about 3 different size fuses in use now....small, med, and large.....and different amp ratings.......

Several years ago I was on hwy 3 near Ojos Negros when my chevy just died. I coast to a stop but it won't start. It cranks OK. At first didn't see a
blown fuse. I pour gas into throttle body and it fires so I know it fuel related. Disconnect fuel line and fuel supply OK. This time I pull the fuses
and find a 10 amp blown, it's for the injectors. I replace it and head down the road when it blows again. I don't have another 10 amp so I put in a 15
amp, all is well. When I get home I take it to the dealer as it's under warranty. They check everything and put a 10 amp back in. My next trip to Baja
and on the toll road it blows again. I again put a 15 amp in and all is well. Another trip to the dealer and still no find problem. Not long after I
change the tranny fluid and filter and when I pull the filter one of the wires is shorting out on a bolt head. I repair the wire and cover with heat
shrink. Looking at the wiring diagram it is connected to the clutch assy in the auto transmission. The original tranny was replaced at 28,000 and
chevy put a remanufactured 700R4 in. The 700R4 lasted 200,000 before replacement.

Sunday to Wednesday 9 A.M. it was 4-6-8....depending on tides....variable light winds...couple of late afternoon light offshore days....glassy
mornings...fun and light crowds ....baja at its best.....
Wednesday about 9 A.M. the new (bigger) swell started showing up...6-8-10 on sets....I left about noon ....great conditions and very rideable.....
It was everything I could want.....
