Back from Baja... El Marmol & El Volcan revisited!
Hola Amigos, Baja Angel and I took the weekend to get away to Baja at the wonderful Baja Cactus Motel in El Rosario... and ended up taking a day trip
(half a day actually) to El Marmol and El Volcan, which Elizabeth has not yet seen.
Some quick notes:
The toll (scenic) road to Ensenada has increased the toll rate... all three are now 26 pesos or US $2.50!
The days were warm and sunny, but nights were very cold... clear stary nights... We will welcome the room heaters Antonio will be installing this
year! Baja Cactus now has 12 TV channels, including two HBO channels in the rooms.
The Baja Stone restaurant has been changed to 'Tacos el Poblado'... I will have other changes to my El Rosario town map coming...
New military checkpoint 55 miles from El Rosario is in front of the burned and abandoned cafe Tres Enriques... just north of the El Marmol road.
Others were on the El Rosario mesa and above the Santo Tomas north grade, as before.
El Volcan is one of Baja's primo places in my book... it is special with it's bubling springs and cold water geyser,. where onyx continues to be
created at the rate of a few inches per thousand years!
Anyway, we took lots of photos and I will get them downloaded to share with you, along with the nitty gritty driving details/ GPS, etc. We also drove
way north from the El Volcan road on an unmapped road in hopes of finding a route to the gulf!
Stay tuned to the Baja Nomad Trip Reports forum for photos and details! Until then, check out my last trip to El Volcan in April 2003 with my
daughter... following our trip to Mision Santa Maria and L.A. Bay: http://vivabaja.com/403/page13.html
Dinner last night at the Half Way House was AWESOME!!!
Border wait was one hour at San Ysidro starting at 8:30pm, Sunday night. It was a long line but moved very fast.

Suzanne and I are going to ride in your back seat one of these days. It must be the hum of those Mud-Terrain tires, but I can't drive very far into
Baja w/o getting tired/sleepy...

The Toyota is as comfortable to drive as it is tough and durable off road!
Honestly, it drives so nice... you never would guess it was a four wheel drive pick up truck if you were blind folded!
I just finest downloading and resizing the photos for Nomad... Check out the Trip Reports forum in a few minutes... I have a LOT of photos... so this
will go into multi parts and take me more than a day to put up... El Volcan is awesome!
