Need a place to stay in Bahia Concepcion...

Hi guys...

I need to rent a place from the 17th to the 23rd, this month, on Bahia Concepcion, on the beach... preferably around El Coyote, El Burro and or El Reques?n.

You see, I promised my wife I would take her camping to Bahia Concepcion in a couple of weeks... and now I need to fulfill my promise, so I am taking a week off to spend with her and my one year old baby girl.

We love to camp, but this time, with our baby and all, I would like to have a more comfortable place to stay, with shade, showers and a toilet.

Last time I was there, a couple of years ago, these were hard to find.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks guys.

If you want all the amenities ie showers, you might want to try Playa Naraja. Check they're web site.

Antonio here is the Naranjo link.....

Take a look...
http://mulege.org/naranjos/naranjos.htm

Armando and Delia have units right on the beach that have cold shower, 2 beds, toilet, solar light and small inverter...

It's luxtury camping....

If you decide this is what you want I'll make sure you get the BEST spot...I'll be there next week.

Thanks...

Thank you so much for all your suggestions guys.. I truly appreciate them.

I believe we will try and go to Naranjos... Bob and Susan... if you please could book us a unit on the beach.. if there is still one available... I will also send you an e-mail.

By the way... some of my wife's sisters are coming along.. they do not need a cabin... they want to camp on tents on the beach... but I believe they will want to use our toilet and showers.

Please mention this to Armando and Delia so we may know how much will the cost be.

Thanks my friends...

Antonio M.

You will like Naranjo

nice clean place with decent swimming, too.

Bring a spinning rod and some shiny chrome lures, Antonio. I have caught corvina on the incoming tides both times I have been there. Delicious!!! No license required.

Bob & Susan...

Drat...missed my chance to get some of our 'Baja Cactus room rental" fees, back...could have left our door to Palapa #8 open for Antonio...if they could have sneaked by Armando!

BTW, how's the beach this week? We've only been back home 10 days, and our tans are fading fast...bummer, miss that 80 degree weather!

Also, there was some discussion about driving times down that way...we drove from Mulege direct to Ensenada coming home - took just under 12 hours.

Also, also...if you see one those tall, white Dodge Sprinter vans around town, stop and say 'howdy' to Doug, my business partner here at home (American Battery). He drove down last week to help a friend move some house stuff to a place along the river.

Is the Puffer fish camp still going strong on the shore, just north of you? Several campo friends bought filets from them, and tell me that the locals call it 'the poor man's lobster'...I believe they said the fish they catch goes all the way to Mexico City each week. I was out wading off our palapa on afternoon, and a small (about 10 inch) Puffer came swimming by! With those small fins, they can't move all that fast, and we had fun checking it out...when nudged with your foot, they extend all those nasty looking 'quills', puff-up, and just bob around for a few seconds!

Hi Mexray, we must have been at Santispac at the same time you were at Naranjo and left around the same time. I wished I had know we would have come to visit.

I emailed you about some of your bumper stickers, did you get it?.......Linda

We ate some puffer fish filets for the first time...

Those things taste great!!!

Look and texture of lobster but taste is like a mild fish...

We went down to see how many people were there...not too bad...

Armando had a lot of camper...they like those showers and toilets.

The ride back was a little slow at the army check points...
Thought I was in line at Disneyland:biggrin:

The fishermen fish only for puffers..
They are called bo-ta-to..

They put a cage down in the water with bait and the purrfers swarm...
Then they put down hooks and catch the fish.
Every tuesday they drive to Santa Rosalia and take the ferry Guymas then to Mazablan(sp)

The liver is VERY dangerous but.....
The white meat is VERY editable...

I'm like you...i would have NEVER tried it....but no one died before me.

It is GREAT!!! Try it!!!

If cleaned and properly prepared, puffer fish, can be safely eaten and is even considered a delicacy in Japan.
The liver, gonads, and intestines contain tetrodotoxin, a poison and that can cause death if ingested.

Some 100-200 people suffer from tetrodotoxin poisoning every year. Approximately half of these cases result in death.

The effects are felt within minutes.
Tingling of the mouth, vomiting, dizziness, and eventually, paralysis and death.

There is no known antidote so treatment usually includes pumping the stomach.

Tetrodotoxin might not be all bad.
Recent research has suggested that it may help wean heroin addicts?

Never to eat fish gonads; so I guess I'm safe.

Delicacy

I just returned from another 2 week concert tour in S. Korea... Last trip (2 years ago), and this trip, we enjoyed many great meals with the local folks involved in the tour.

One dinner, we were treated to P.F. I can't seem to remember the Korean name for it... After hearing the story about the fish's toxicity and potential for harm... I was a little . . . um.... cautious about digging in...

Our Korean hosts (tour producer, local promoters, commercial sponsors, and TV station owner and managers) were all sitting, waiting, politely watching and smiling.... awaiting our first bite and reaction....

Silence ensued.... I don't really drink. . . but I decided that THIS was the time to do so... We poured small drinks of Soju (which is made with formaldehyde to basically shut down the liver and allow one to become drunk much quicker and economically....) and glasses of beer. . . (in the Korean traditional manner - a rather interesting tradition in itself) Sort of a Korean Boilermaker, I suppose...

Stalling.... stalling... Finally, it became obvious that we, the guests, WERE going to be the first to take a bite.... It became a bit of a showdown between Brian (Brian Crain, the wonderful composer and pianist that I play cello and conduct for) and me. I toasted to life (and the great mystery of WHEN it ends).... and faked left (with my fork)...

Quickly consuming a small light colored vegetable and a sip of beer, Brian was convinced that I'd taken the first bite... He must have figured we were all in it together, as he toook a bite of the fish, and encouraged everyone else at our table (maybe 20 folks) to join in.

I watched as our hosts happily dug in to the beautiful meal before us. . .

A few more minutes of careful observation (no one fell over dead) and I too joined in the feast.

And here I am to tell about it.... and to report that it was a great dinner. Tasted like fish! (not too fishy, mind you).

Its all just stuff and some numbers.
A day spent sailing isn\'t deducted from one\'s life.
