Baja 4-06 (Part 3): Las Pintas, Hugo's latest paintings, & more!

After our search for Santa Ursula we stopped along the highway between Km. 100 & 101 and noticed a cave south of the highway on a hillside...

Chris took the camera and scrambled up, while I worked on my road notes from the search.

It looked promissing!

So, we continued to Km. 80-81 for the graded road south to Punta San Carlos... for the access road into Las Pintas (17+ miles south)...

Elizabeth and I were here last September and did a real detailed road log with lots of photos, see http://vivabaja.com/pintas

Chris was last here in July, 2001 along with many amigos in the Viva Baja van, and following along was the Humfreville's, Bedman family, Desert Bull family, and Neal Johns with El Camote filming... see http://vivabaja.com/van1/page4.html

Chris was 12 then, so he had fun seeing things he remembered 5 years ago.

Here's the 'waterfall' that was shown in the Baja Adventure Book... I never have seen water flowing... Walt Peterson must have come after a rain?

Chris climbed up some boulder for a close up of the big petros, and saw this interesting petroglyph.

Hugo's art was recently on display at the government house in San Quintin... Also, at the Baja Cactus Motel lobby and selected rooms.

Dk, You are a lucky man in many respects. To know that El Rosario area the way you do is one for sure. To have the time to explore it is another. To explore it with your teenage son, yet another! Good work, and a great report and photos!

So glad that "Hugo's latest artwork" is not graffitti out at Las Pintas! I was a little worried when I read the title of your post.. That truly is one of Baja's "out there" treasures. I am lucky enough to say I've been there(and I've seen the water flowing!)

Ok, ok, here's Hugo's canvas...

...just had to have some fun on our last stay a few weeks ago in El Rosario. We got their last room that night, and it was huge! We had two king beds with loft and another two beds! We felt like we should have gone out and invited some fellow Baja travelers in for the night!
