I posted this in the Nomad Trip Reports Forum last February...

>>> My only quest this day was to do a road log from El Rosario out to La Bocana Beach via the 2WD 'HIGH' road and the 4WD 'VALLEY' road.

=============================================================

EL ROSARIO TO LA BOCANA BEACH (High Road):

0.0 Turn right off Hwy. 1 at the sharp left curve (by Espinoza's)... Continue straight passing the left turn to El Roasrio de Abajo/ Punta Baja/ and Valley Road to La Bocana.

0.8 Fork, go right.

1.2 Fork/ Road curves right, uphill (road left soon ends).

1.5 Palapas and Banana Trees on left. Road climbs uphill.

2.2 High Point (view of La Bocana)

2.6 Fork, lesser road left down arroyo. Go straight ahead.

2.9 Fork, go left. Road right to closed gate.

3.0 Fork, right to Diamante Del Mar security gate, go left.

3.6 Road to right, better road bends left for La Bocana.

3.9 Fork, go to right.

5.3 LA BOCANA BEACH

============================================================

EL ROSARIO TO LA BOCANA BEACH (Valley Road/ 4WD):

0.0 Turn Right off Hwy. 1 at the sharp left curve. In about 100 yards take the left (south) fork... signed for Punta Baja.

Cross over the El Rosario River culvert and follow main road as it turns right (west) and crosses some water before reaching the south bank and entering the town of El Rosario de Abajo.

1.5 El Rosario Museum on left (Open Mon.-Fri. 9-6, Sat., Sun. 10-3) Photos inside at http://vivabaja.com/505/page6.html

1.6 Rosario de Abajo mission ruins on right

2.5 Road left for Punta San Antonio and coast south of Punta Baja.

2.9 Road left for Punta Baja... Continue ahead (west) for La Bocana.

3.1 Turn right/ north for La Bocana... ahead to rancho. Deep water crossing soon.

4.2 Come to fence, turn left to opening then continue west. Deep sand section ahead.

5.1 LA BOCANA BEACH

========================================================

I was surprised that the distance from Hwy. 1 was almost identicle for both routes. The high road being far easier to drive <<<

Here's a beach photo taken then...

Other La Bocana beach photos at http://vivabaja.com/1104 and http://vivabaja.com/505

Yah, Las Pintas is a great place to explore... See http://vivabaja.com/pintas

BajaCat, if I lead a day tour, such as I did for Nomads last year... I would pick Las Pintas... Of course with the details I provide on my web pages... you don't need me to take you there!

I enjoy going to places with fellow Baja nuts, however!:spingrin:

Well thanks... But, even if I am not there, you and other Nomads should attend... The town gets really into this event. Last year's was the first and Antonio (BajaCactus) is really respected for all he did to make it happen.

Especially after Mike's amazing efforts to get to the book signing ?

Relax folks... I always prefer to be in Baja!

However, I am still a single father of two teenagers and have my own irrigation business... both of which might cause me not to able to go... You might think Baja is my entire life... Sad but not totally true!

Haven't heard much lately about the festival. Anybody else planning on going?

Some of the people I'm going with are planning a beach day at a little beach south of Punta Baja. U2U me if you're interested and I'll give the general location. We're thinking B-B-Q on the beach, campfire, etc.

I'm with you Diver! Too bad we couldn't carpool, saves on the gas, and more importantly, having someone to help DRIVE UGH!

The dates of the festival are more within the realm of possibilty this year though........:light:

Okay gang, only a month away... Remember last year's was a blast!

Antonio ('BajaCactus') called me last night and said all the same events will be repeated. The art exhibit will be larger and managed by Kim Williams of The Trading Post gift shop (maps and fossils) located 2 miles from the town center. Hugo Lopez will have all his available art on site, as well.

Antonio will be posting from El Rosario in the next few days to provide us with updates...

Like last year, he will be hosting a special party for Baja Nomads... this means good food like crab and carne asada!

I have been asked to take anyone interested to Las Pintas Fossil & Petroglyph grotto Saturday morning. The Baja Nomad meal will be when we return Saturday afternoon. 4WD is not needed, but no low slung vehicles for the trip.
Las Pintas details: http://vivabaja.com/pintas

Although all of the new rooms at Baja Cactus are now booked for the event, Antonio still has the older rooms plus Mama Espinoza's Las Caba?as Motel and The Sinahi Motel have basic rooms. The Sinahi also has its RV Park and there is dry camping at La Bocana beach, 5 miles west of town. There also is Ed Lusk's Baja's Best Bed & Breakfast at the far east edge of town.

To reserve a room at any of the motels: festival@bajacactus.com

Be there or be square!:light::cool:

Hey David,

I saw the driving directions and pictures....thanks! Have you ever camped out at the beach during the festival? Is it fairly crowded or secluded?

Looks like we'll be doing the Thursday through Monday thing again this year too.

Since DK and John have trips planned for Sat., maybe we'll do the beach thing on Friday afternoon.... get a surf and then light the b-b-q, or just roast some hot-dogs over the fire.

I don't want to miss the Jaripero (sp?) this year. Last year that was the highlight of our trip!

Hi Geoff, no I was lucky to have a room at Baja Cactus to take a break from camping. This is the second festival for El Rosario... Last year I believe Surfer Jim, Hook and Neal Johns camped at La Bocana at least one night. It is pretty big, so crowding is not an issue, I wouldn't think.

BajaGeoff, there were only three or four vehicles there last year - room for many more.
