Czech versus U.S.A. amounted to a soccer lesson.

Even do my bet is that Italy will win it all, my personal favorites have been the Czech republic for a couple of years now, when they are on, they
play the best soccer in the planet, and the U.S. shouldnt feel so bad, NOBODY would have defeated the Czechs the way they played today.
In my opinion, they have the top team in the world, only problem is, they lack consistency.

BAJA???
Yeah, good query, what does this have to do with "Baja?"
I run a good post a while back on a generic Mexico topic and it gets bounced, now these on Copa Mundial stick.
Que Paso??
Oh well, I was in Quito last week when Ecuador upset Poland.
Now, that gave celebrating a whole new meaning, for sure!
If you think there was celebrating in Ensenada you should have seen the hoo-haw over "Los Amarillos de Ecuador!"

Top scorer so far: Spain- 4-0 over Croatia. The Spaniards are hot to trot- the team to watch. - In contrast to Brasil's phoned-in ho hum 1-0, nothing
spectacular performance. "El Mundial de Ronaldhino"? I don't think so.
Best defense since 1939: Poland. Although finally losing 0-1 to Germany, the Poles held back the Krauts 0-0 for a full 90 minutes until a final
estocada in the first minute of OT. The Germans had possession for seemingly the entire game with numerous shots on goal but sinking none until the
final moment. Poland played pure defense just hoping to stretch out the tie. The German goalie might as well have taken a nap. Alas, the blitzkrieg
finally broke through. Deja-vu all over again.

Sorry, compa but at this point the best performance I've seen is from Italy - the worst from the USA.
I am normally pretty much of an Italy basher. The team is, more often than not, a collection of brilliant individuals that are more concerned with
highlighting their brilliance than with performing as a team. This time, I saw the possibility of something different. If they perform like they did
against Ghana - hang on. They were agressive from the beginning and took the initiative, something Italy often has a problem with. And, they played as
a team. I guess we'll see how serious they are on Saturday.
I agree completely about Brasil - what a disappointment. And Germany - that was not a result that reflected what happened. Though I would LOVE to see
a final between Germany and Italy - an opportunity to settle some ancestral scores, not to mention that these are the two teams with 3 wins, behind
the "cariocas".

Disappointing Coverage
The one thing I was looking forward to at the World Cup was the media Riot Coverage, but it has been a disappointment. Even when they've got a good
riot going, the media isn't giving it the
TV time that it should. I'm beginning to think that the fix is in.

May not be that much to cover. Over 3,000 Brit hooligans have been turned back.

Since you hate soccer and only like the violence, why don't you watch Stanley
Cup Hockey?

NOBODY is watching Hockey.
It was pointed out the other day that The Women's College World Series broadcast on ESPN outdrew the Stanley Cup game. I can understand that.
Watching those College chicks bend over to field a grounder has to be better than anything in Hockey.
Actually, I don't care about violence IN sports. I rarely see anything too violent in Baseball. I prefer to watch violence in real life where people
REALLY get hurt. Schadenfreude and all of that.
Speaking of which, the good folks in Belgrade, Serbia made up for the lack of street violence in Germany. A well-covered fan riot, complete with Cops
busting heads with nightsticks and a railing collapsing, dropping dozens onto the level below. Pretty tame, though, with only a few dozen
hospitalized. A few deaths would have been more entertaining. Beggars can't be choosers, though. I appreciate the effort.
I'm still rooting for a good "NeoN-zi" turnout/riot before the Final. Hope springs eternal.

El Mundial de las Sorpresas
Angola turned out to be a tougher nut to crack than (at least I) expected with a very aggressive offense, taking it to "San Oswaldo" repeatedly. And
yes, Ricardo-one of a handful of "white guys" among the Black Antelopes (or Impalas Negras)- is indeed an excellent "golly" [sic]. Kinda surprising
to see the racial mix represented in this former Portuguese colony, considering that the Africans had plenty of reason for hatred towards their former
plantation masters and the rather obvious resemblance of the machete and half a gear wheel symbol to a hammer and sickle. Mexico definitely missed
Borgetti, it's a maybe if he'll be back for Wednesday's match against Portugal.
Not much surprise from the always competent Dutch, but will they be "always a bridesmaid"?
I knew I wouldn't get much work out of my employees, so what the hay- sent out for pizza and gave them an extra hour for lunch.
Well, tomorrow is do or die for the gringos. If we lose to the Azurri, the 3rd game will be irrelevant.

This morning Argentina put in one hell of a performance that's going to be hard to beat. They look like the champs if they can keep this up.
