There is a road into the area and my sailing charts show an airstrip. Will get a road map out later and see where that road goes...maybe mission
dolores...
It is north of San Evaristo so maybe there is a road from there.

The area known at Timbabiche is located between Evaristo and Agua Verde. There is a road that goes in there but apparently, 4wd is required. I've
never been there, but it's been on my "to do" list for a while. There are a few stories on the internet of people driving into it. My understanding
is that the road is also quite narrow and overgrown with brush, making a jeep a more ideal vehicle for driving in.

Folks,
I don't understand this - you have an interest in an area, can't you just get a map out and figure it out? Do you need someone to post exact
coordinates of the place, and all places in between so that you are certain you have all you need?
If the answer is yes, I might (would) argue that Baja is not the place for you - a National Park, north of the border with clear Mapquest turn-by-turn
directions is more like it.
I can hear the howls now  . If you break down on the way, will you be grateful
for the Mexican who stops to help you? If you cross another lost soul, will YOU stop to help?

wow Roberto what is going on we all use deferent methods to explore Baja Ca. and if you don't like someone else's way then that is fine. but that
doesn't mean that there way is wrong or your way is better.

no it is not and thank you for reminding me that enough is enough. I know I have been posting allot lately. It is just something that happens to me
this time every year. things are really slow here right now and I am really
bored.  I really need a Vacation Bad and I will get one soon then every one will
get a brake from me

Judy, that is a good picture, I have not seen that place for years. There used to be a cardon cactus showing on the roof. Some years ago we used to
fly into Tembabiche and up until this time, only Skeet knew of the place as far as conversations on the board went. A friend and I flew into there in
the early 80's and things pretty much look the same. There was a school house put in by the Mexican Government but they did not do a very good job.
They had ropes over the top of the building and when the wind blew in the summer from the south, they would winch the building straight up and down,
and when the wind switched to the north in the winter, they would ease up on the south side and winch down on the north side. I got to talk to the
kids who all lived on ranchitos in the area in school. It was basically a one room school and we had kids from first grade through high school. The
jefe at the airstrip was well known and we laughed with him that it must be a real test of faith to wait for customers to drop out of the air
(literally). He would borrow a relatives panga and take us out for fishing and we would dive for lobsters right in the bay. He had a small plywood
shack on the beach and most pilots would camp right there on thee beach. We took some paint and made a rough sign calling it the Tembabiche Hilton.
His front gate to his house was a Cessna airplane door which occured when a pilot crashed his plane in the bay on takeoff.
Last year, friends of mine who own the RV Park, Palapa 206, told me that it has become a notorious place for drug landings and that some of the
people who live in Constitucion go there on a regular basis to pick up and transport drugs. What a sad twist to a really beautiful place.
By the way, the two story building was the site of a big rancho and reportedly had a grand piano and a large room for dancing and people would come
from all around when there were big fiestas there.

Did you ever hear how all the materials for the house arrived there? Or when it was built?
It must have been spectacular when it was furnished. Grand piano, eh...interesting.
What family owned it?

No, I am sure that Skeet has some more information about the family that originally owned the big Ranch but I did not really get much information
about that. At one point the road was actually in pretty good shape in the early 70's but a chubasco took out the road. Some time later they
repaired it because there was a small travel trailer just off the end of the runway that had been hauled in over the dirt road. Then the road was
destroyed again in several places and I have talked to some guys on motorcycle that were unable to get all the way in to Tembabiche. Evidently the
drug money had some effect since they did manage to get the road opened and it is accessible at this point.
From what I remember there are several different families living in the immediate area and they all go to Loreto to buy supplies and necessities.
I gave the head honcho several plastic gas cans and they were very happy to have those. Saturday nights everyone came to his house and they started
up an old generator and everyone sit around the porch and anywhere they could sit to watch TV, a real community happening.
I think there is some mention of the background of this place in Gene Kira's book about the history of that area. I am in Alaska for the summer but
will look when we get back.

My 1966 edition of Ray Cannon's "Sea of Cortez" has a section on that area and a bit about the "Hidden Hacienda." It states that at that time it had
been unoccupied for some 70 years.
