Road conditions south

Just got this last night from a friend who had just made a trip to Jimmy Smith Land and back. This guy makes about a dozen trips a year down to Las Barrilas for fishing.

Howdy....I just got back from another adventure in Mexico safe and mostly
sound. It was a pretty hard trip this time as the road is terrible now
after the big rains down there that washed away a lot of pavement in the
arroyos that cross it. There are lots of detours and a lot of rocks and
mudslide debris still left even though the damage happened over a month
ago. It will probably still be there for 6 months to come in a lot of
places since the damage is so extensive.

I had my longest stay ever there at the hotel. I fished 6 days but the
wind blew almost all of them except two. I never did catch a Marlin, but
I got a few Dorado and a few Tuna. I had a Sword Fish on for about 15
minutes until it broke off so that was the highlight of the fishing. It
wasn't a real big one...only about 200 pounds, but it was really strong.
I came in after two hours the last day as the wind was so strong and the
swells were so big I thought a couple of times it was going to turn the
boat over.
The End

different road

I don't know what road your friend was driving on but mex-1 is in fine shape. I just drove from buena vista to san diego last week towing a trailer and boat and it was smooth sailing all the way. There are a few rough spots around loreto but they are no more than a few car lengths long. One man's highway is another man's washboard!!! fishin rich
