Found in my files
And though it still needs a lot of work I thought that some of the Newby's would find the history interesting.
Amigo?s de Baja
People with a shared dream
But with many facets
Lovers of the Ocean and Sea
Those who would find Missions
Or the cold and cruel deserts
Tonight you freeze
Tomorrow your blood boils
Those who take off
Down seldom used trails
Boots an hats
Scuffing the sand
Temperatures rising
A land apart
Comfortable at the ocean
The desert barely endurable
Mountains cold and pure
Amigos de Baja
A home that captures people
And makes them friends
Baja Ladies and Gents
People
Sharing the oceans
The missions and deserts
Struggling upon the mountains
Sharing
Bahia de Los Angeles
Mulege
San Ignacio
San Felipe
And TJ too
Here was home all safe and secure
A place to go when tired and blue
Make ready for a trip
Stop and refill your tank
Find a new pal
Share his thoughts and feelings
Amigos de Baja
A place that welded us together
So that we cared for each other
Even though we had separate
And different needs
Somehow in this safe and happy haven
We all found a way to fulfill ourselves
Our home has been destroyed
We are exposed and hurting
There is a need to reach out
To touch each other
To hold hands
And share our needs
We desperately need to find a way
Bernie Swaim
September, 2003
The way was provided by Doug Means and his BajaNomad Board soon after I wrote this piece.
Things seem to get a bit rocky every now and again but most of us still share a common love of Baja and its people. Hopefully that love for this
wonderful land will allow us to work together, to understand our differences and build on those areas where we share a common desire.
Perhaps in this way we will not have to go looking for another new home any time soon.
PAZ
The rocky part is still there, but so is the fun and the love of Baja.

As usual, you got it just right! I think we're gonna make it, the board is doing pretty well.
Now if we could just get rid of all the old guys..........

Hey! Dragon twister
I still be the "Normal" Nomad.
Yes! I do agree with everything you said except getting rid of ourselves.
Just because you have wife's in waiting does not save you.
"Now if we could just get rid of all the old guys.........." and some of those youngen's that make me feel not only old, but stupid to boot.
Just kidding--I wish we could encourage the lurkers to come out and join those of us who seldom bite.

Words that speak to the heart, Bernie! I'm out, I'm out!! But I ain't going on
Neal's "Wives in Waiting" list....not even after I figure out WHY there IS a wives in waiting list! Does he go
through them fast....or is he such a jewel that the line forms to the right?

Yes, words straight from the heart.
I really don't know what Neal's appeal is but it is definitely there and he apparently has a very understanding wife. This wife's in waniting thing
has been going on longer than I have been kicking around Baja Forums. I do know that David K has pictures, on his website, of a cat fight between two
younger woman over Neal (jokingly I think).
Anyway, it was one of your posts that caused me to find the poem and the appeal that I re-posted. I believe that all to often history gets lost and
when it does the lack thereof causes problems for any group or organization.
I really like people and Baja and my wife puts up in some ways but no way would she allow what Neal gets away with.
Happy that you have come out just hope you stick around and have some fun and learn a bit about Baja.
