Allisitos in La Fonda
Pulled into allisitos near lafonda on Sunday night late to pop the top and sleep...I was SHOCKED when the guy asked for
$16.50 US for the night...I always remember 5 bucks being the magic price....
I turned around and went up a little farther to Raul's and payed 5 bucks...

Not greed-----capitolism.
Charge whatever the market will bare---------that is called competition----it is how folks make a living, and prosper.
If the guy loses business/money at $16.50, then he made a big mistake and he will soon learn it.
Personally, all amenities aside, I would rather pay the $5, so yes, he may lose business as soon as the word gets out.
Would you have it any other way??

Kind of like the gas companies record profits. They can charge $5.00 a gallon, and we will pay it because we want to go to Baja.
All kidding aside, I agree with your comment. What bugs me is Americans throwing money around down there like it grows on trees. It give the
impression that all americans are rich. So now we pay Gringo price. I miss the days of an inexpensive weekend in Baja.
$16.50 for camping on the beach. That used to be the total cost of a whole weekend in Baja.

Oil company profits, etc. (the rest of the story)
I invested in the oil companies, and "energy" in general, starting about 4 years ago, and yes, I have made "record profits" too, which more than
offsets the high gas prices, for me at least. (Vanguard Energy Fund) (Gold has been pretty good, too) I have lucked out.
As for the oil companies themselves, these big profits that they have been making lately is to make up for the pretty dismal profits they made before
the oil prices went sky high. Over the years, long term, the oil company profits on average have been slightly LESS than the average business or
corporation. It is now "catch-up time".
As for a cheap vacation in Mexico, it is still possible, but I agree it is harder and harder to find. I too miss the "old days" in Baja, for lots of
reasons. And I will NOT pay $16.50 for a place to park my camper for the night  ------I would rather camp in the boonies anyway, and $16.50 just reconfirms why------you can almost stay in a few select motels for
that price.
