The road appears to be open but flooded this morning. The warning was no doubt for people trying to cross in the dark.

They were working on the jettys until dark

Will see how they held up on our way to the beach.

Still raining and windy.

Four inches of rain overnight and still coming down. That's more than an average year's rainfall in this little village. Thanks for the kind words about my little note on droughts. I'm surprised nobody on the board chided me, reminded me that it is impossible to starve in the desert because of all the sand which is there.

So far Emilia has been a wonderful lady.
The rain is much appreciated and the wind has not been too bad.

In CSL...

The rain is still coming down or it has started again here in Cabo San Lucas. We left our little trailer last night and came over to my brother-in-laws house. Heard the wind and rain quite a bit last night, but not too loudly over the air-conditioner!

We had gone out to the huertas to find some mangoes yesterday morning, and had left the windows open on the camper, so came home to quite a bit of wetness inside. Some of the dirt around the house had been washed away, and a fairly large hole had opened up in front of the camper, decided it would be safer with my little girls to spend the night inside a real house...only problem here is that they have run out of water, so there is a pile of dirty dishes, and I had to drag some in from outside to flush the toilets! We have a 5000 L water tank at home, so have not run out yet.

The streets of Cabo were flooded yesterday as we drove back into town about 6pm, we will have to take a drive down later to see how things are. At least they have some new bridges built on the way into town, as I can remember some of the arroyos flooding in previous years.

We stopped at Playa Chileno yesterday, and the waves were huge. We took a quick dip, but then the security suggested that we get out of the water. We still had our picnic on the beach, in the palm trees, and had the beach almost to ourselves. We had been there on Sunday too, and the place was packed!!

Anyone know how to do an apostraphe on a Mexican keyboard? I have enough trouble doing the capital letters and the @!!

Saludos from CSL. I am going to look for a good satellite photo so I can see where this storm is going. I wanted my nephews to find me one last night, but they were to busy chatting to look for the weather and my brother-in-law was too busy watching soccer on the TV to look for a report there!

I am sure we will be out enjoying the storm and the coolness (I hope) today! Heather

Another view

This one was taken on the road that was built for all the trucks bringing rocks for the jettys.

I am standing on this road in the middle of the arroyo

thanks for the link. Looks like another day of rain. We will just see how well all the kids do! My brother-in-law and his wife have both gone to work and have left my husband and I with my two little girls (3 and 6), my 2 step-sons (15 and 18) and my 2 nephews (12 and 17). The little girls love to play with the big boys, but the boys do not always last too long!!

Good thing they have cable and internet!! Saludos, Heather

Since Carlotta and Bud passed by, they have been working trying to do something to make the jettys work.
One idea, which is a good one, was to make an arm off the northern jetty to try to stop the erosion(see above picture). I think that without this arm the erosion would have eaten through and made this jetty a rock island.
They also put a lot of rocks on the seaward side of the northern jetty, probably because they saw the waves breaking over what was there.
At any rate, what they did seems to have worked to some degree. The northern jetty seems shorter this morning.

Judy's pictures of the jetties always remind me what a transitory effect all our efforts have on Baja (usually thankfully - but I do feel for the fishermen affected).

Our local pescadores at Conquista are having a terrible time. Each fishing day needs a major decision whether to gamble on a tankful of gas or feed the kids.

Only .1" here on the Pacific due west of La Paz.
