Pastrana Double Flips

Not Baja but interesting no less.

Travis Pastrana, pro motocrosser, did a double back flip in the X games Friday night. First time eve done in competition. Travis was also the first to do a single back flip in competition. It appears to have been done on a 250 two stroke bike from the pix in the paper today.

If I'm not mistaken, Travis teamed up with Ricky Johnson and a couple of others on a Suzuki 450 in the 1000 last year. I think they were DQ'd or given a time penalty for not having their GPS box.

Yep, you're correct. There was a mixup and the 'delegate' who was supposed to mount the GPS at the start neglected to do so. The team noticed that the 'box' was missing at Pit 2, but by then it was too late. They continued to race competitively on the much smaller bike than the winning Honda 650 and managed to finish third overall--only to discover the big error.

Greg Godfrey and Andy Grider were the other two riders. Pastrana and Grider and Suzuki will be back for this next B1K. They will have another teammate, but I don't think it's "official" yet owing to sponsor formalities. It's going to be a formidable team this year, and you can bet that the 'box' will make it on the bike. :bounce:

Grider is off to an Enduro in Romania next week http://www.redbullromaniacs.com/en/index.php . Pastrana has a commitment elsewhere, otherwise he would have gone to Romania as well.

Pastrana a double winner

Pastrana also won the "rally" competition finished up today with a closed course sort of competition. They had done 8 or 9 stages of short course rally driving ( 4 - 6 ) miles per stage in the Hungry Valley (Gorman) area on pretty good dirt roads. He won by a small margin as second place did a barrell roll coming into the finish inside the stadium.

Interesting to have this kind of modified rally in the X-Games.

Bufeo thanks, I had a brain fade and forgot about Andy being on the team. Tunaeater and I met him prerunning the 1000 last year. Are they going to beef up the Suzuki 450. The run to La Paz is an open bike course with many flat out high speed sections. Too bad they can't race on the KTM.

I don't have that info right now. I do know that they won't be using the MX model of last year. Neil (Andy's dad) did some magical stuff with sprockets in order for the bike to keep up with the 650s. My guess would be purely that...a guess. Better to wait until more info is available.
