clothes for kids
The neighbor hood i live in in the denver area is filled with kids and i have gone around and am collecting clothes to take down to the an felipe
area next time i go down is thier going to be a hassle crossing the border with a jeep full of clothes (don,t want to pay customs on them and
should i give them to a church orphanage or who so i make sure kids get them jim,

I've taken bags of clothes down over the years and have never been hassled at the border. But I don't know what the law is about it. A church or an
orphanage is OK. The Nomads that live in the area could steer you in the right direction.

I take clothes and other stuff down with me when I go.
I go right into the declare line.
Show them what I have and explain I am giving it to an orphanage.
I give most of the stuff I take down to the orphanage between San Matias and Valle T.
The name is El Oasis.

I too have brought clothes south... to jr baja (who took them on south) and to Juanita at Cielito Lindo who makes sure they go to the most needy in
the Los Pinos migrant camps.
Technically I understand it is quite ILLEGAL for 'tourists' to bring items for others south... you are 'competing' with Mexicans who are in the
business of selling clothes. Yes, I know that the clothes are going to those who cannot afford to buy them.

I once got pulled over at Otay Mesa. The aduana wanted to tax me on all the used clothes I had in the back --- for the poor. I told him there was no
way I was going to pay tax and started to unload them right there---told him he could find a place for them to go. He freaked out and told me to load
them back up and get out of there. I never go to Baja without a load of kids clothes. The church, the Internado School and certain poor families I
know really appreciate and need them for their kids. When giving to a family, I always say I found them in my house and I can't use them. Perhaps
they know someone that can use the clothes.

Jim: Virginia and I have had "Warm Jackets for Cold Kids" since 1992.
The best way we have for getting the clothes through the border is to put them in Old Suitcases.
Never had any trouble.
Be fore warned that some churches charge a 10% fee and sell the clothes !
It is very easy to get all the Jackets you can handle by contacting the Lost and Found at the Schools in your Area. jackets by the Thousands are left
on the School buses every day.
All of our Jackets go to the Constitution Area as in the Summer time the Fog moves in about 4 PM each Day. Clothes can be delivered to the General
Hospital in Constitution. Just tell the people at the desk that they are for the "Warm Kids Program-They will get to the Families that are REAL poor
at no cost to them. We have helped to deliver them- It makes an impression on you that you will never forget.
