Onan-Cummins Generator
I just saw an add from Costco for a 6500 Onan-Cummins diesel generator. They didn't list the price but I'm sure it's competitive. The generator is an
awsome combination.

Tis indeed a GAS fueled generator...
...Cummins Engine Company took over Onan generators some years ago. They mfg. lots of Gas powered genny sets using the 'Onan' nameplate. You have to
get your 'Onan' spare parts at a Cummins dealer, these days - and they aren't CHEAP!

Cummins makes at 7.5 kw diesel genset. I don't know it the Costco unit is diesel. Seems like if it was they'd be bragging about it.

If you look at the COSTCO ad, under the specifications, there is a warning from the State of California that states "this product uses
gasoline".....but COSTCO does have some good looking Onan propane generators.

For a diesel generator
of that size the cost is substantially higher. Last year I paid $4500 for a Yamaha 6500 water-cooled diesel genset. The price included shipping from
Chicago to Carson City and there was no sales tax. This genny should outlast me.

Can someone tell me if diesel or Propane would be more economical.
What are the advantage or disadvantage of one over the other?

I'm not sure the cost difference. But propane will burn cleaner. Have you considered Biodiesel. You can make it yourself with about a $500 to $1000
start up investment. If you use waste oil I understand it costs about 60 to 70 cents a gal to make. I'm meeting Saturday with a dude who's been
making his own fuel for five years now. WELL SEE???

Hola Sonora Wind,
Please report back. I am sure there would be great interest.
Also if you know what is involved in conversion to bio-diesel engine.
I don't remember alot of McDonalds in Baja though.

Biodiesel generator that I would say competes with solar and will probably last forever, and cheap too.

You can make the rounds of restaurants and get their used fry oil. They'll be happy to give it to you. And the 500-1k startup costs? No-way.
