Ensenada and San Felipe Labor Day Weekend

We just got back from a 5 day trip. Stopped in Ensenada and dropped stuff off at our house there. Then took Hiway 3 to San Felipe. Must have rained the day before, as there were some parts of the highway that was still flooded. San Felipe was awesome as usual, but very hot!!! It was 96 degrees when we got in on Thursday at 7pm. Could onlyget a room at Hotel El Cortez for Thurs night, everywhere was sold out for the labor day weekend. The water was well over 90, and very calm. On Friday, the weekenders were coming in by the truckfuls. Came back to Ensenada late afternoonFriday and this time many more parts of Hiway 3 were flooded. Luckily, we were in an SUV, but there were small cars unable to cross the flooded parts. When we were coming back to the states today, we were shocked at the amount of people in Rosarito. Someone forgot to tell the world about the recent crime spree!!! Puerto Nuevo was absolutely packed. We stopped and put some money on our Ilave toll card and asked the girl working there about the recent crime spree. There definitely was added police and the old toll booth was set up with lot of AFI guys, stopping each car. We took the new highway from Popotla to Otay. It was longer, but less stressful than coming into Otay via the old way. Border wait was over 2 hours, but we have Sentri, so it was about 8 minutes because two idiots tried to use it to go through without having Sentri, they were escorted back into Mexico. All in all great trip. Didn't drive at night at all though, didn't want to take any chances.:spingrin:

bajagirl...

Thanks for taking the time to post!

Next time you go to SF, try camping somewhere like Shell Island, on the beach, or at Nuevo Mazatlan campground. Both are 20-30 km's or so south of town. Great beaches and warm water.
