Does anybody remember about 8 years ago when Discover Baja suddenly pulled their customers away from Lewis & Lewis? I can't remember the particulars, but it seemed weird at the time...

Anybody recall the details?

I am not certain but I think this was about the time that one of the Mexican insurance companies went under and it affected DB, Vagabundos and possibly Lewis and Lewis, if they are only a middleman and not an actual insurer. Believe the Mexican insurance company was Seguros Noroestes.

I sustained damage to a moho I was driving down there at the time. This was insurance through Vags and Padilla and Noroestes. I filed within Mexico, met an adjuster in Ensenada who told me to get x estimates in the States and send them to an address. They sent me a check for an averaged amount.

I had reason to contact the Vags over it and they informed me I was one of the few lucky ones that had gotten a claim paid before Noroeste folded. Actually, as the office staff told it, it was Padilla that paid my claim as Noroeste had gone belly up while I was down there. But there was a limit to Padilla's pockets and more than a few Vags never got reimbursed for their claims. I believe that ended the Vags relationship with Padilla.

I was one of those who was down there with Padillo's insurance through Vagabundo del Mar when it was cancelled, and they had no way of notifying me. Scared the heck out of me when I got home & found out. I switched then to Lewis & Lewis & been with them since.
