If you would like to provide something to add to the door prize give-aways, please contact Antonio or I via email or U2U. Both our emails begin as 'info@...' and then put 'vivabaja.com' for me or 'bajacactus.com' for Antonio.

See you at the party, yah!?

Sure, do whatever you like... I guess you are continuing south after the fiesta then?

Yes, I will be continuing south. Hopefully, my driving skills will not have deteriorated too much by then! I'm going to try to make it to Rosarito or Ensenada. I assume the bus doesn't take a special lane or something so I can follow?

Getting to CECUT is pretty easy if you miss following the bus... It's that giant ball complex in ZONA RIO...

I got an email from Antonio with the proposed schedule... Man, you aren't going to believe the strings BajaCactus has pulled to give us the V.I.P. treatment and tours of two places that aren't normally open on Saturdays...JUST FOR US!

He asks that we aim for a 9:30 am arrival in San Ysidro so our private bus can leave promptly at 10 am for Tijuana!

Oh, the bus... it's full now... The rest of you will have to see it in photos... or follow us in your own cars.

The restaurant will be Mariscos Los Arcos... I have the GPS, and will post that later, but to give you an idea, it is on the original Tecate route, near the RR tracks near where the Otay Border road intersects... ie. if you are going to Ensenada from the Otay crossing, you pass very near Los Arcos.

GPS Waypoints (NAD27 Mexico) for Nov. 4

The first stop in Tijuana is at CECUT (Baja California Museum) which has a pay parking lot (only 20 pesos for all day) for those joining the tour bus there... After dinner, the bus will return to drop off those whose car is there.

32-31.86', 117-01.39'

The next tour stop is the L.A. Cetto wine bottling facility and gift shop.

32-31.46', 117-02.22'

The next stop is The Cerveza Tijuana brewery and tavern.

32-30.85', 117-01.86'

The final destination is the LOS ARCOS RESTAURANT (La Mesa, east Tijuana).

32-29.57', 116-57.29'

Antonio has emailed me directions for Los Arcos for those without GPS... Note the web site for Los Arcos (all over Mexico... click on Baja Norte then the La Mesa restaurant.

Restaurant Los Arcos has a website with info, menus, addresses an locations...
check it out and pass it along please:

http://www.restaurantlosarcos.com.mx/engish/index.htm

Now, directions...

--- Coming from Ensenada, once you pass the Rosarito toll road, take the exit on
the right that says "Tijuana Libre"... drive for about 10 miles until you arrive
to a road cross that takes you either to "Downtown" or "La Mesa"... take the
exit to the right that says "La Mesa" (this exit is just past a big furniture
company that is on the road, to the right, called "Muebles Dico").

Once you take "La Mesa" exit, drive for about 5 miles... until you realize you
are driving down a long hill. That area is locally called "5 y 10"... you will
see a big tire company on the right, yellow painted, called "Llantera
Jaramillo".

Once you pass "Llantera Jaramillo", after about 800 meters, you will see walking
bridges... take a right there. That is Blvd. Diaz Ordaz... drive for about 3
miles and you will see the Restaurant to the left (after passing a big shopping
mall on the left called "Plaza Carrousel". (note from David: It is not 3 miles, according to my GPS it's just under 1 mile)

--- Coming from "Playas de Tijuana"... go to the border and drive as if you were
going to cross to the States...Once you arrive to downtown at the traffic light,
take a left, but instead of driving up the bridge that goes to the border on the
right, take the left road there, that is called "Via Rapida Poniente".
Directions continue below.

--- Coming from the US... cross the border and, instead of taking the exit to
the right towards "Playas de Tijuana", keep driving as if you were going to
"Plaza Rio"... before entering "Plaza Rio", there will be an exit to the left
that says "Via Rapida Poniente"... take it (watch out because the traffic is
kind of fast there and the exit space is small and brief). If you pass the exit,
keep driving to "Cecut" and in the traffic circle infront of it, take a left, do
not go over the bridge, instead go on the side road to the right... that will
take you to "Via Rapida Poniente".

---From "Via Rapida Poniente"... drive for about 5 miles... you will see a
"Price Costco" and a "Home Depot" on the right... soon after, you will see a
bridge going over the "Via Rapida"... pass under it and drive for a mile or
so... until you see another bridge over... there take the exit to the right just
on the side of that bridge, that is Ave. Benton (there is a motel on that
corner, you will also see a big Candy Store just before the Motel called
"Megadulces La Tapatia").

Once you exit, drive and once you pass over the railroad tracks (Blvd. Benitez),
drive 4 or 5 more blocks until the next traffic light, there take a right and
the Restaurant will be soon after, on the right, about 200 meters or so.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DK note:
A quick way is to cross at Otay Mesa, and follow the signs for Rosarito and Ensenada (passing by Home Depot and Costco) to the intersection with the overhead bridges mentioned in Antonio's letter... turn left and Los Arcos is almost a mile away, on the left.

See you there NEXT SATURDAY!

Anyone else would like to meet up and have some good fun and food, please let us know... Here on the forum or by email to viva@bajacactus.com

I've been to the other Los Arcos (on Salinas) before for a business meeting - and they had some sort of smoked marlin (or other; tacos maybe?) that was dee-licioso.

The only other smoked marlin I've had - and it too was muy delicioso - was in La Paz at Kiwi restaurant. Smoked marlin appetizer. Yum Yum.

John, you and Barb are already reserved on the bus... no worries!

Anyone who is NOT reserved on the bus tour that wants to follow us and see (and taste) the sites, please let us know. If anyone is just coming to the dinner party a Los Arcos (La Mesa branch, east Tijuana), please give us a number so we can inform the restaurant of additions.

There will be some non-seafood items for dinner, Antonio tells me.

Doug is right about the marlin...YUM!

5 Days to go...

The bus is FULL and not enough people RSVP'd by Saturday's cut off (2 days ago) to hire a second bus...

A few have been asking if there are still seats and you guys are on standby... However, you can follow the bus... and we will have signs for your cars to ID you as part of the Viva Baja Cactus Tour so you will also get to be in the police escort as we move from site to site.

YOU NEED TO LET US KNOW if you are following by your own car so we can include you. Also if you want to see the 'secret' Command and Control Center, we need your full name to inform them, in advance of Saturday!

Email viva@bajacactus.com IF you think you will be following with the tour OR if you are going to the dinner (and are not already reserved on the bus)...

Many thanks!

Those that accepted our invitation (before waiting to the last minute) are bound to have a fantastic time... I have seen what Antonio is capable of!!!

Remember, TRY and arrive at San Ysidro by 9:30 am (lot location still to be announced) and we will begin our fun once everyone is onboard!!! The bus WILL leave at 10 am sharp (that's not 'Mexican time' either)... IF you miss it, head for CECUT and park there for just 20 pesos, all day and hop into the tour in progress... ZONA RIO.
