Drugs -- small amount OK? Or not OK?

A LA Times article recently said Mexico was going to allow people to be in possession of small amounts of drugs. Don't know the exact amount. Less than an ounce of pot?

Anyone know if the checkpoints are OK with that?

Just curious. I don't want to test the water on this one.

Lee

If you are bringing weed I would hide it really well. I'm sure the checkpoint 17 year old soldiers would love to find a doobie. They'd smoke it that night and you'd be in jail (unless you paid the right mordida!!).
I'm continuously amazed at old fogies who make fun of people that ask a legitimate question.

Hmmmmm...

the Mexican government may or may not have said such a thing, but keep in mind, that's the same government that promises, "With your toll, we make the highway better."

I dont think that law ever passed. Believe that Fox did the equivalent of a veto.

Dont be obvious about it if you insist on taking a chance. These checkpoints searches are so cursory that there are many ways of hiding it if you are determined to do it. Maybe the best method I've heard is putting the buds into a film canister and sinking it into the middle of a peanut butter jar.

But the best advice is, dont bring it.

Learn the value of good tequila, grasshopper..................

does anyone know the law regarding person searches? On thing I've noticed is that at those checkpoints they go through your stuff sometimes like they are POSITIVE there is a pound of cocain in the very last bag in your car, but they NEVER do a pat down. Curious thing. I always wondered if there was a law about searching a person's body.

The D.A. says you can legally have a small amount of grass but it's not really worth the risk of running into some other macho policia that can give you a hard time. Best to keep it on your person but last time I passed through one of the checkpoints they DID have a drug dog...new...so maybe it's not such a good idea...also be very careful buying weed as the guy you buy it from makes more from the cops when he fingers you...fishermen are your best bet and they won't sell it but might pass some on....trading something might be a good idea. Not that I would know anything about this!!! Friends have told me...

What's a small amount to you may not be a small amount to the cops, eh ??

It comes to mind that if you are asking the question on this board, then you are not savy enough to try anything, slick !

*Mexican legal drug proposal rejected*

_Fox vetoes bill amid growing U.S. criticism_

May 4, 2006

MEXICO CITY – President Vicente Fox vetoed a controversial bill last night that would have permitted the possession of small quantities of drugs, sending the measure back to Congress after mounting criticism from the United States that his administration was backing away from drug enforcement.

Fox refused to sign the bill in hopes of eliminating “any doubt that in our country the possession and consumption of drugs are and will continue being crimes.”

there it is - cold hard "print"

Dumb and Dumber

First of all, that law was never enacted.

Second, anyone starting a question about Mexico with "Isn't there a law.....?" is already in trouble.

Finally, talking your grass past the kid at the checkpoint would be real bright... why don't you try to pet the Doberman at the end of the cop's choke chain while you are at it?

Hope you like a steady diet of frijoles with rocks on cardboard tortillas, that is what they will feed you for the next 8 or 10 years...

(I never tried it, either, cannot imagine it would be worth the payback down South)
