hotels Todas Santos/Cabo...reasonable$?

okay, I have lived in Mexico, mainland and Baja, for over ten years but so far have avoided the Cabo area...never thought there was anything there I wanted to participate in. however, of course, I have visitors coming and they want to make a loop drive. I live in the Loreto area and know good local and La Paz places. I also know of one reasonable hotel in San Jose del Cabo but would like to know others, too. any suggestions for nice, clean, moderately priced hotels-etc Cabo, San Jose del Cabo, Todas Santos or surrounding areas, out of the way and 4x4 access fine, too? Iīd like to stay under 50, under 40 would be better, and I usually donīt pay more than 30 elsewhere. thanks.

when i stayed at the MDC in 1981 for a week it was $35 a nite and a bargain! i think the place is bigger now and 2-3 times the rate but would be the best bet i think. the Sams stayed at a place on the july fun trip reward year end that was about $70 , it was 4 miles from the center but close to some rest and shops, for got the name but you can read about it at the Sams site go to trip reports news letter for aug ust i think.

you get what you pay for tho. i don't expect much these days for less than $50 no matter where i am. in the $30 to $40 range might as well be in a hostel youths. i enjoy blowing some dough on myself when i go out. money useless when you're old or gone!

I'm like you. I'm not sure there is anything in Cabo that I want. But I do have a little experience with Todo Santos and I think you can find what your looking for there. I don't recall names but I believe there are about 1/2 a dozen little motels that are about what your looking for and not hard to find. It's got a good small town feel and is interesting but not really "authentic" Baja but still fun.

thanks so far guys. as far as you get what you pay for...that's way over-simplified. I've paid a lot for nothing and a little for great places. and everything in between. I don't mind paying for value received, but I am not on vacation. and I'm not stupid. I live here, I know. one reason I avoid Cabo is what has happened there as the result of that type of thinking. and it's one reason things have gotten out of hand AND unreasonable.

I was in Todo Santos about 6 months ago and drove into a little motel right in the heart of town. All I remember was a big sign that said MOTEL out front. It was across the street and around the corner from the large restaurant/bar Hotel California. Big rooms with decent bath and shower with a small swimming pool out front. $30 per night for two with two double beds.

Marie-Rose, the Mar de Cortez web-site still shows a standard room for $50.00.
