CB Radios?
Since my cell phone coverage doesn't include Mexico, should I consider getting a CB radio for road-side emergencies? If not a CB, what are my other
alternatives?

I would definitely not rely on a CB for emergency communications. Their range is generally not so great. For something higher on the reliability
scale, a satellite-phone would be good, and sometimes even a cell phone will work depending on the location and service. For radio communication, you
would do well to get a VHF radio - this will require a little research on your part, but can be very worth it. They require a license to be used
legally, but they are more common and have good transmission range in Baja depending on your location. The coastal areas use VHF among land and sea
for communications, sometimes as a substitute for telephones.

I wouldn't know who to call if the cell phone worked or on the radio.

Best practice would be to "buddy drive".
Go with a friend. It's always fun traveling with others
Use a CB to communicate to each other when passing etc.
Susan says "Just, Don't break down..."

you got a better responce to that question than i ever did......vhf can be used in your truck and on your boat.....get one that scans....i
guess.......i would like to here from the old timers on this one.......david k what do you think?

VHF is the way to go. I operate a tour company just north of Puertecitos and we use all VHF radio gear. Because its available in portable handheld,
waterproof, and base unit versions it seems like everyone down here has one. I have scan on all of my radios and it helps find what channel that
particular town may operate on.
If your in trouble call to the first person who answers.

If your driving hwy 1 there are the Green Angels to help you. If your going off-hwy onto the dirt without a buddy I'd go with the satellite phone.
Take a GPS and the Baja Almanac, then you can call home, a friend etc. With the GPS and Almanac you could tell them exactly where you are. They in
turn could either ask for help on this and other Baja sites or come after you. VHF radio would work but coverage may be spotty except in populated or
fishing areas.
