Satellite Radio in Loreto
Hello,
Im a newbie and dumb.
Am in Loreto and have an old friend who wants to sign up for Satellite Radio. He called a number in Wash. D.C. (????). thanks for any directional
help.

If the person has the satellite radio and wants to start service, just go into XM or sirius website to start the service.

Sirius sat radio works very well all the way down to Cabo and further south. I presume XM works just as well. Purchase either a Sirius or XM radio
receiver and sign up for the service online on either website.

You will also need an FM radio nearby because the sat receiver has no speakers. It plays wirelessly through your FM radio.

Probably not available in LTO. Have someone bring one from the states, and you can sign up online. They work great. Easy install to a vehicle or home
system.

Satellite radio in Baja Sur....
Satellite radios are easy to find...check any Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. I have XM in car, boat, and house..works great at our places in Baja Sur
and north of the 59th parallel.
The cost is about $100 plus your monthly fees, depending on how many units you use...2 receivers are about $17 per month. The XM house radio is a
Delphi model measuring about 7"X19"...while the car unit is a small Roadie.

I purchased a Sony XM system back in 2002. Two couples followed us from San Felipe to Cabo that year. I had an iRock FM transmitter. It was
battery operated and transmitted at least 300 feet when I placed it on the dash. I had a couple in a car in front of me and one in back. As we drove
they could hear my radio the whole trip. It did go through triple A batteries every day or so. Two years later I found an upgraded model of the
iRock which ran off 12v and have used it ever since. I have a cradle in my Truck and one in the garage at home. When I plug it in the garage, I
have music through my house and guest house and all my neighbors listen too. I noticed the new transmitter say they only broadcast 30 feet. Too bad
one can not get the great distance out of the new ones.

I have had two rigs with Sirus radio and both start loosing signal south of constitucion and it is mostly gone by La Paz. I was talking to another
driver a couple of days ago with the same problem so he got an XM in La Paz and works great.

Like I said, mine worked all the way go Cabo so from that it looks like XM's footprint is a little bigger. I talked to someone a couple of years ago
and they said their XM worked all the way from Prince George to Mexico City.

I have Sirius radio, I live in La Paz, I get it the whole peninsula even when the antenna is just laying on the dash.

I 'searched' and learned some facts:
Sirius charges $12.95 per month, while XM will set you back $9.95 per month. Starting April 2, XM is raising its monthly charge to $12.95, but current
subscribers can lock in the $9.95 rate if they purchase a full year. Both companies charge activation fees and offer discounted plans for second and
additional subscriptions. I would steer clear of Sirius's $500 "Lifetime" subscription--it applies only to the lifetime of your Sirius receiver, and
who knows how long that will be?
So far, Sirius has 1,100,000 subscribers, and XM has maintained its lead with 3,200,000 subscribers.
The satellite moniker isn't just a high-tech affectation. XM maintains two satellites nicknamed Rock and Roll, and Sirius has three satellites of
its own hovering over the United States. Sirius's original programming originates from its studios in New York, while XM Radio's studios are based in
Washington, D.C.

This is old data. They both charge $12.95 per month but both offer special discounts-check their websites. XM has about 7.6 million subscribers and
Sirius is near 6 million. I have both services but for me XM is my favorite. Get either one, you'll love it.
