"Two-Eyed Tequilla and One-Eyed Jack"

A True Story

It was around 1957 in a Small Bar at Buck Medows, Calif. on Hwy 120 near Yosemite. My Uncle had just opened the Bar and needed a Bartender-- Me! The Cherr Tunnel was being builts and he was overrun with Customers, mostly Rough and Tough Tunnel Miners.
As the Customers came in each Night , there was one who was picked on nearly every time he came in- He only had one eye looking out, the other back up in his Skull caused from a Fight many years before.
Every body called him "One-Eyed Jack".
One night , several miners were giving ole One- Eye a bad time finally ending up with a Fight which One-Eye lost. He came stumbling back to the Bar, Lips swollen, Nose Bleeding, Ear hanging and said to me" Skeeter, if I only had Two eyes I could Whupp all those Bas----ds!. I looked at Jack and said: I can serve you something that will make you think you Have Two Eyes.

I gave him a "Two-Eyed Tequilla" which he Downed in One Glup, slammed the Glass down and Shouted; Give me another One!. As I sat the second "Two-Eyed Tequilla" in front of Jack I look straight into a Man with Two Eyes!!

Ole "One Eye" turned on the Bar Stool and "Dough Popped" the Closest Miner, then the Second, finally cleaning up on all the guys who had been picking on him. He stumled back to the Bar and layed a $10 Bill on the Bar looked at me, now showing only One Eye!!!!

No One ever bothered Jack again.

The Scene adances to 1977 or 78 in Loreto, Baja . I had just finished a Great Day of Fishing at San Nicholas, feeling goood , I climbeds the Stairs of the Mission Hotel to the Bar, upon entering shouted to Vinciente"' Make me a "Two Eyed Tequilla" mi Amigo.
As i approached the Bar I noticed a man get up from the end of the Bar, Fist tight, Face Red and coming at me in an Angry Manner. He Shouted; What do you know about "Two-Eyed Tequilla"?? I said; I invented it one Night in Buck Meadows, Calif., Why?
He Said : Because I am the Second Miner ole One-Eyed Jack Whupped after you served him that "Two- Eyed Tequilla. Worst Licken I ever Got.
I turned to Vinciente and said: Serve this man a "Two-Eyed Tequilla"'--- We became Friends.
