clams & shells

We are about to leave home to go from VT to the Baha for the first time. From our reading we have gotten conflicting information on shelling and claming. Is it legal to do either?

It is not legal to collect any thing from the beaches in Baja. Shells/ rocks or anything of that type. as far as clams Im not sure we always collect some to eat that day with dinner but have been told it wasnt legal and been told it was.

Collecting things

is against the law in Baja. On the other hand, all the soldiers, fish and game people and environmental agencies I have talked to regarding this have said that if you are getting them to eat, no problem.
A lot has to do with your attitude as well. If you are confronted by someone, if you are nice, there probably won't be any problem. If you have the conceted, better than thou attitude that many gringos tend to carry around with them, the problems begin.
Perhaps someone else on here has heard of problems collecting clams but I never have.
