Fund-raising for Mulege Elementary school

I´m fund-raising for a K-6 elementary school in Mulege. They were hit hard by the flood (elementary school in town was spared mostly), but the government came in and did a great job cleaning, re-painting, etc. Looks better than before! :D Everything pretty much back to normal, but there is a big need for supplies for class projects.

I´ve recieved one ´wish list´so far, and it includes items such as crayons, markers, chalk board supplies, special notebooks for class, etc. Items can be brought from states, or bought directly here in Mulege (good for local business). Checks can be made directly to the principal of the school for purchase of supplies.

If you would like to help please contact me at mchugh_molly@yahoo.com, or U2U here.

Thanks a ton!

I was with Father Javier this morning, he is the catholic priest that is in charge of the kids the gifts went to and it was actually closer to 250 gifts that were distributed , I expressed to him your concerne for the children of Mulege and needless to say there is nothing left to send that way.

BajaBad I will look into what I can do from this end.

We'll be delivering a bunch of stuff to the boarding school in March I think. Dunno if they'll need it all so we'll keep Escuela Primarea on our list. We also have another Interact Club in Oregon that needs a school so I'll forward your info to them. We're trying to spread this project; it's infectious!

Thanks a ton kp - and everyone else who has responded. The Baja bush pilots are bringing in some supplies on Feb 21st, and Fernando (aka fdt) has offered to post on his site and put out the word on his radio station - very cool.

The teachers of grades 1 - 6 all filled out a wish list with items for their classes. I´ve translated it and converted into word.doc and is in email... if anyone wants a copy please request one from me: mchugh_molly@yahoo.com

In general, there was a lot of requests for colored markers, water paints, geography and math games (grades 1 - 6), white and colored paper, construction paper, glue, pencils, folders, notebooks, etc. Those items common to all lists pretty much.

I´d really like to meet their request for a photocopier... and then use some of the cash donations to arrange for purchase of supplies (ink, etc.).

Here is a note from the 2nd grade teacher:

¨I thank you for your generosity and support. These materiales facilitate my work and motivate my students in there classes. ¨

Thank you for everything, Professora Melina Aguilar

:):):):):)

Thanks for the replys and assistance, BajaBad

Hi,

A quick note and favor to ask as there was a recent mishap. I was told supplies were coming, when and where to pick them up... and had told my contact at the school I would be delivering them today. Someone (who I don´t know) intervened... gave the supplies to some other ´school officials´ yesterday (that I again don´t know...) and I was left with nothing to present to the school.

I organized this myself, have put my own time and money into the effort (am low-income) to try and serve a need because I have personal connection to the elem. school and wanted to give something back. I don´t think it too much to ask that I coordinate the supplies, and assure that the items get to where they need to be. If someone else wants to fundraise, then great, but don´t walk in and take over someone else´s efforts, without contributing to any of the legwork yourself.

Posting the ´wish lists´ below... translated the best I could. Glad that there has been some response! Thanks much, BajaBad

Molly/Bajabad,
Good news!
My girlfriend Lori is a schoolteacher here in North Hollywood, CA and she posted a note about your fundraiser. Well, the response from her coworkers was overwhelming! We have 10 boxes filled with a great assortment of supplies – each box is about 12 x 10 x 18” (copier paper box). We are leaving for Baja on Mar 14 and headed to the Mulege area Mar 18-23. We can bring some of the boxes, but we need help hauling the rest.
Anybody in the LA area or passing through willing to give us hand for a good cause?
Contact me here or via e-mail at oconnor (at) avinc (dot com)
Thanks,

Joe O.
