Left San Francisquito around 5 in the afternoon going to camp just somewhere before Bay of La to catch a panga early the next morning and try to get some fish to take home.

It is always nice driving as the sun goes down as there is much more wild life out. On the way in did not see much of anything walking. On the drive out Jack rabbits every where, 1 red racer type of snake , 1 bobcat, Coyotes, Burros, and all sorts of dessert rats.

Great pictures and trip report. Looks like a great place to camp/kayak.

I am not sure if these are ling cod or bucket mouth?

I am pretty darn sure you would not want to have your fingers in the mouth of a ling cod

Well I would sure like to have that Ling Cod in my mouth. We used to catch them off the rocks in Big Sur and it was the best eating ever. The fillets were actually green in color but after cooking they turned white and melted in your mouth.

I've approached them on a dinner plate. They were very leery of MY teeth.

Lings make great tablefare but I like cabezone a bit more. Cabezone also have green flesh and sometimes the entire fish looks green. The skin feels like a bullfrog's belly. I can't think of a finer tasting fish than a cabezone. Beats halibut, and that's hard to do.
