VW had a good day

From OffRoad.com

#83i VW Touareg 2 driven by Mark Miller and co-driver Ralph Pitchford crossed the FINISH line around 8PM. The TDI diesel powered rally car was able to endure the harsh terrain of the Baja 500. Miller and Pitchford were able to keep their pace in front of the Class 1 cars, and successfully finished in front of several Trophy Trucks.

The #83i VW Red Bull Touareg 2 had an elapsed time of 10:00:34 with an average speed of 42.380 MPH.

We saw the two VW's come thru Erendira. They both looked awesome, and were the only vehicles that did not sound like the exhaust had fallen off.

These are the same two Touaregs that raced the Dakar race a few months ago. Like to hear how the drivers compare the courses.

A new toy in my future?

To go with my clattering Cummins Turbo Diesel, I want one of these. If the war is ever over, they'll make some for the civilian market.

They have an adventure touring model with a giant IMS tank and a claimed 110 mpg. Looks like the thing could have a six hundred mile range. Talk about monkey butt!:lol::lol:

Maybe VW should think about making dirt bikes. :P

Mark Miller coming in ahead of ALL of the Class 1s and several TTs - an outstanding performance. They - both cars - deserve a whole lot of respect.

Anybody drive a Touareg TDI? I'd love to, but I'm only $72,000 short.

The class 1 driven by B.J. Richardson/John Gaughan finished about a minute ahead of the Miller Touareg.

vgabndo,
You are not the only one eyeballin' the KLR-diesel. How unbelievably kisk-ass would that bike be for a Baja run?

If those dudes up in the high CA desert need a guinea pig to do a "promo run" I'd be the first to sign up.
