Last time I was there the gate was open and no sign, so we just drove to the end and took some photos. The time before, the gate was closed so we walked the 2 kilometers (steep) to the end of the road.

Great photos! Thanks again!!
David now the gate is close all the time, they have a sign that tells you to find the director and ask for the tour(it's free). they point the way with and arrow.I talk to the director and he agree to take us he send one of his employes to open the gate and then he tolds us to go ahead and drive up, the director was allready waiting for us. Indee it's a wonderfull place especially when you share it with so many friends,

That gate was closed even on our trip there in 1978...when the observatory wasn't quite finished yet!

About 3-4 years ago when we went up, the gate was open but the sign up not to proceed. We drove to the office and as they were having lunch asked us to wait in the parking lot and they would take us up. A fellow arrived in a Ford Ranger p/u and loaded 13 of us in the cab and bed and drove us to the largest telescope and gave us a nice tour of the facility. Great spot.
