That always cracked me up... if to abbreviate is to make it as short as possible, then why double the size of it? I came to the conclusion that was the only way to pluralize it... ie. E.U. would be just ONE united state, so EE UU is lots of united states! LOL

Crazy!

That's funny David. I guess the real meaning of EE UU is one of the deep mysteries of the universe. The truth is out there...

I don't have an exact answer...

That's one that has always puzzled me too. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Mexico is officially called Estados Unidos de Mexico?

EE UU AA, somebody told me, is a plural, as in United States of America.

EEUU

Bajalera is right. It is a plural because the United States is plural.

So, it's because it's plural. So, it's because it's plural.

one more spin on plurals

Indonesian friends tell me that to make a noun plural you say it twice.
Thus "dog" is a dog....
"Dog dog" is (are) two (or more) dog (s)
Boy, reading that sure doesn't make it any clearer, does it?

AA, did you see me reply 3 days before Lera's?

It is a stupid answer to us, as there is no place in the world called the United State, so then why can't EU abbreviate United States...?

I guess they are holding EU in reserve for a future new country with those initials... LOL
