2007 edition Baja Map from AAA

We have been using the 2003-2004 edition Baja map for so long now, that it was quite a surprise to look at the wall of books and maps sold at Discover Baja Travel Club last night and see the AAA map with a different photo on the cover!

The map is dated 9-07 and in the legend has a copyright of 2003-2007 given. Perhaps because the entire map wasn't revised...

Here is what I found (so far) different on this 2007 AAA map:

1) The Blvd. 2000 highway (BCN #201) is added.

2) The Mexicali detour toll road is added.

3) Valle Trinidad/ San Vicente road has been downgraded to 'poor' in the middle section.

4) The observatory road is shown paved to the National Park boundry (above the Meling Ranch).

5) The entire San Felipe/ Puertecitos road is shown paved.

6) The coastal road south of Punta Baja is shown ending in Arroyo San Vicente instead of reaching the Punta San Antonio road from Ej. Emiliano Zapata, as shown before.

7) The entire road to Santa Rosalillita is shown paved.

8) The road into Bahia Tortugas is shown paved for the final ~10 miles, otherwise the pavement ends at the Bahia Asuncion junction and no pavement going south towards Asuncion is shown.

9) A side road going east for 4.8 miles off the Malarrimo Beach road is shown, 7.6 miles from the beach... and ends at the blue line (arroyo).

10) Some changes to road types and an additional short road shown, west and northwest of Mulege. The Guadalupe mission visita at San Miguel now has a 'mission church' symbol added.

11) Highway 1 between La Paz and San Pedro now shown as divided highway.

12) El Carrizal shown as a town and reached by a paved road, south of San Pedro.

13) Additions near San Jose del Cabo... Puerto Los Cabos, short new paved and dirt roads close to town.

I don't see much more changed from the 2004 edition... But, this might be enough to warrant getting this new map...

DK
That is one of the reasons we were so surprised that they were not going to sell retail. That is the map that will not be available anymore.
Since you dont come down this way too often, you wouldnt know that it also has the new east cape road and the new marina on it.
We have been selling this version since Sept 2007. They also did a new Mexico map which came out a little earlier this year.

Judy, if you would be so kind to alert us Baja nuts when a new map comes out... I promiss you will get orders! I think most Baja nuts love Baja maps and want them... it keeps us 'closer' to Baja, even when we are not there!

I looked closer at the changes south of La Paz and will add them to my list, above... Thank you!

Well, David, I try not to do too much advertising here but the new maps have been on our web site since September.
We are Baja Books and Maps, so taking a look every now and then might be a good idea!
And we appreciate all the business that the Nomads have given us. We are no Amazon but we do have a comprehensive collection of Baja Books and Maps and we are the only company actually doing business in Baja who sells them.
So support your local Baja businesses......:dudette:
Thanks everyone

Understood Judy, but a new AAA map is more like news to us... and remember, Baja Nomad has a whole bunch of classified advertising forums where advertising can go. Use the Baja Miscl. forum there to advertise books and maps. But, alerting us of a new book and map is news... specially if you do not post a price or an order form with the news...

Thank you for your service, it is greatly appreciated!

David, is this map still free to AAA members? I know they started charging members for the guide book a few years back. I think they have since discontinued the guide book altogether.

I just went at lunch and picked up the Baja map, the Mexico map and the Mexico guide book for free.

But the Baja Guide book we are all familiar with was not free. Did not ask how much.

So, you guys got the Baja guidebook for free or was it the overall Mexico guidebook?

BTW, Judy, the map supervisor at the office I went to says they are phasing out SELLING AAA maps (all of them, not just the Baja map) but that the Baja map would still be produced for members.

I received the guidebook to all of Mexico with the map. I was not aware they published a Baja only version.

They keep it in the "for sale" section of the offices.
