Those who steal are thieves. Don't let economic disparity cloud that fact. It's a moral decision. Most of Mexico has less than we do but, they all don't see an entitlement to a share of what we have. I would imagine that a US expat in Cabo, of common means, could covet the wealth of the more fortunate.
It's not enough of a reason for me to join the Communist party. I'd more inclined to join a militia in Montana.

With your attitude toward it, plan to continue at that pace.

Also, this posting was addressed to Rosarito Nomads.

So in response, 20 years and the only problem has been watching someone's car get stolen in front of La Fonda. I got the parking spot when the car drove away. About 30 minutes later the owner of the stolen car was asking if the person (owning my car) had seen his car drive off.

In the same 20 years, I have witnessed many more acts of crime and violence in LA and Orange counties.

I will stay away, thankyou.... I used to go every other week in the sixties.... now all I see is a squlid dump where once was just the Rosarito Beach Hotel... and a beautiful place it was.... now downtown is two or three miles of tawdry motels , street vendors, and beggers..... what you see in it I'll never know...but you know it does match your bitter heart.... I don't think I have ever read anything positive from you, just nasty judgemental BS from someone who obviously has much disapointment in what has become of his life. So, you just keep rotting away you dirty old bird.

Sir, I think you see only what you want to see. I know of an Amish town in Pennsylvania that might just be to your liking.

But Pleasanton is such a nice place. Looks like it goes on the boycott list along with Arizona and Irvine.

If that rash of burgleries happened in Rosarito, Al G., Hook and CaboRon would have smugly posted it dozens of times with embellishments trying to convince people the place was more dangerous than Baghdad.

Dannyrose and conquestkm, welcome to the board and have many future good times in Northern Baja, despite the bitter remarks of the know-it-alls.

How GRINGO of you. You are one huge "PIECE OF WORK"

marooonic.

It was when the owner of the car (from the US) came back into La Fonda asking about who owned the car in the spot he used to park his car, then I knew that the car driving away was being stolen. I got he and his buddies into my car along with their stuff and got them across the border that night, after making a report to the Rosarito Police. I followed up with the District Attorney of Rosarito the next day.

Menso, there are some of us who actually have embraced the way of life in Mexico without being an Ugly American. That aspect of life escapes you and some others.

Don't want to get too familiar right now, but curious if there are other nomads who own, rent or visit Rosarito. And do any of you have first-hand experience with crime or police hassles in Rosarito?

It was the green Cherokee that was prowling for awhile. But they waited till my wife and kids got out of the car and went in the office, then pounced. My son saw the car speed away. People said we'd be nuts to buy in baja because of the crime. That same weekend an elderly couple in the parking lot of the Gold Coast Casino got robbed at gunpoint. The wife got killed. Danger is relative. Someone found my wifes license and credit cards down by the sand dunes, called us in Vegas and returned them. I'm not sure that would happen here. We were there through New Years day. The town was very quiet . We felt sad for the business owners but we had a great time and had great food. We took a taxi to Puerto Nuevo for lobster. It was only 10 bucks each way and the guy waited for us while we ate. We saw soldiers driving up and down the blvd. They looked like bored kids. We haven't been hassled yet by the cops. Maybe just lucky. On a side note: Has anyone noticed how fast cars stop for you when crossing the street in Rosarito. It's really something. That never happens in Vegas. In fact Tourists get hit and killed frequently in Vegas crossing the street. To all those that slam Rosarito, I know there are prettier places in Baja further south but getting there is the issue. I can go door to door in 6 hours (even on the return trip with our sentry passes). The town could be cleaner but we've found the people in town to be very friendly and a beach sunset is a beach sunset. Particularly when coming from the desert.

The only reason cars stop for people crossing the street is that no one has car insurance- it's not required. You hit a person with you car with no insurance though and you're in big trouble.

I built a house in downtown Rosarito six years ago on a piece of land my family owned. I'm a private, quiet sober kind of guy and in the six years, I've:

> Had a truck intentionally try to run me over on the beach one morning (yes, I can post a video)
> Had a false police report filed against me by that same idiot. (my security tape cleared me and sent accuser into hiding from the JPGE)
> One lame extortion attempt for $200
> One attempted kidanpping (I wasn't home but my camera caught the action and the detective at the JPGE said they were "delinquents who inteded to do me harm"and yes- I have the video)
> Had my truck stolen (from my garage no less)

Haven't had any problems with the police or even been stopped. Most of the problems I see are caused by the english-speaking mexican-born deportees who are scraping to get by. Thousands of then get dumped in TJ every year and they tend to rejoin their gang friends on the Mexican side to survive. This is a border area problem for sure- these guys are too lazy to head further south.

I do think the locals are getting peeed off that their jobs are being threatened by the crime and business is down 50%. That will compound once constructon slows, then stops on building projects that are under-funded. I do hear that construction materials (especially copper) are disappearing at an alarming rate- not sure if that's a new problem though (doubt it).

You know...I really don't want to be a dirty bird, and I will say this with the best of intentions and due respect. People like you are the reason the cops are corrupt...make them give you a ticket, pay your fine...no big deal. When you commit a crime bribing cops, they think in deeper terms and start Jacking up everybody...scaring people, ruining their vacation...all because it might be inconvenient for you...sad indeed.
