Canon Cajon
Just got back form a short, 2 day, trip up Cajon.
I had hopes of finding the old trail out of the canyon but no luck. I know where it starts and followed it for a few hundred yards before it peters
out into nothing. My buddy Estphan has been up it and claims it is a two and half day ride to the Mission (his father, Jorge, is the care taker for
the mission). Anyone else ever follow this trail to the top?
Anyway in another topic someone was speculating on the Palms in Canyon Cajon. There are only 2, about a half mile up, where the first cascade is.
Also while there are a few petroglyphs in this canyon, it is much better known for it's rock paintings. Two seperate sites, one is well know at the
beginning of the canyon, the other is further up and has two walls of a large boulder overhang painted.
There is a lot of water in Cajon. Equal to what is in Agua Caliente. No cilantro farms yet, but new water tanks for storage and a new wier upstream
for collection when the stream is low in the summer.
I have enclosed a photo of a 20 ft. waterfall in upper canyon Cajon, one of many. About a 3 or 4 hour hike for serious hikers.

Where is your canon cajon? There is a canyon here near Loreto with the same name, apparently. But yours doesn't sound like the canyon we know.

Cajon (this one) is on the east side of the Sierra San Pedro Martir emptying into Valle Chico... West-Southwest of San Felipe.
The mission is San Pedro Martir (the mountain range is named for the mission), where today (hopefully) the backpacking expedition led by Jack Swords
has returned to the Meling Ranch. Since that mission is just some fallen adobe and foundation ruins (and uninhabited), I am unclear about a
caretaker...?

Estevan always stumbles over the word when he talks about his father. I guess the term caretaker is mine. Since there is nothing to take care of, as
you note, might explain why Estevan has trouble describing his position/ title. His father has a ranch on the other west side of the range that he
gets to via Canyon parral. Maybe the hikers will run into him.

You're very fortunate to be able to live near the mouth of Cajon canyon.
This canyon looks a lot more like an alpine valley than a desert canyon, I could imagine trout living in this stream....
By the way, we saw lots of water scorpions walking upstream trying to get back to water, as the stream was drying up @ the mouth of the canyon...
