Contributions for Coco's wheelchair

Nomads,

As suggested in a previous thread (thanks Hook;)), this thread is intended solely to provide a conduit for contributions for a fund established for a motorized wheelchair for Coco who will soon have to have his "good leg" amputated.

Appreciations go out to the folks offering to support fitting and providing a prosthetic leg for Coco :light:

This thread simply offers the following information:

Contributions of $20 (more if so inclined) may be sent to:

Murray Dochstader (Baja racer - offroad motorcycler)
1434 Rose Hill Road,
Kamloops, B.C. V2E 1L4.
... e-mail: < dochstader@shaw.ca >

Murray is co-ordinating with Kiki (motel owner and offroad rider from San Felipe) on this effort.
Kiki's e-mail is : <kikimr.baja@hotmail.com>

Any interested folks may contact Murray for confirmation of project.

Murray rides the Baja several times a year and is committed to helping Coco out in return for a range of services/rescues Coco has offered Murray over the years.

Coco at his best:

Murray at his best:

Thanks for your consideration and generosity,

Ged

Nice Canuck! What a great way to show appreciation. How do you suppose that wheelchair will perform in that environment? Try to get one with 4X4 and the fattest tires you can find. :smug:

Nomads are very generous. Coco has touched so many lives. I doubt he would remember me from decades ago. I think I can give a little.

Sharks,
They expect to pay about $4000 for a suitable unit....these guys know their machinery and will not be coming up with a flimsy. vulnerable rig.

I don't know the tech details , but an e-mail to Murray will help with that.

Coco's immediate home area is hard-packed coarse sand....and if he gets another prosthetic, I assume he will use a chair "as appropriate".

Thanks for your support:yes:

Perhaps someone should talk to Coco about this first. Is this what he really needs or wants or would use in a meaningful way? If this is what's best then I'm in.

TW's suggestion

I believe TW has the correct approach and we also would support this idea with Coco's approval.

Nomads,
Thanks for your interest in this project. I believe that Kiki and Coco are in relatively frequent contact...but all such questions should be forwarded to Murray Dochstader at the e-mail provided above.

And "off the Grid" electricity for recharging the battery becomes more difficult.

Better throw in something for a solar charging panel.

Seems like he might be in a viable area for solar.

Nomads,
Sounds like some folks are skeptical about this form of assistance for Coco. Some of you even may have been to his home in the desert and have some first-hand awareness of his needs and capacity for coping.

I believe he is set up with battery charging capacity...again, please confirm such details with Murray Dochstader at the e-mail provided at beginning of this thread.

Serious suggestions and solutions are appreciated.

Nomads,

Thank you for the contributions that have been forwarded to date. Murray has indicated that he has received about $500 from various sources so far. This wheelchair contribution drive has been presented on this forum as well as on several off-road & dual-sport motorcycle forums, as well as within our smaller circle of British Columbian motorcyclists who have benefited from their contacts with Coco over the years.....whether that benefit is from him supplying gas, using his truck to pick up wrecks and/or injuries, two-way radio communications for emergency help or reservations at Alphonsina's.....or just a couple of cold beers, conversation, and a chance to sign and read his visitor's log.
This post is a reminder for any folks who still may be considering donating ($20 is a suggested amount, but that is up to each individual/group that makes a donation :saint:....)
As well, this post is not to be read as a pressure tactic or hounding people, but rather is an effort to set some time limits for managing this project. Murray is hoping to determine the total $$ submitted by donations from various sources so that he and Kiki may take their next step in this project.
Any folks still wishing to donate may forward contributions to:
1) Murray Dochstader (Baja racer - offroad motorcycler)
1434 Rose Hill Road,
Kamloops, B.C. V2E 1L4.
... e-mail: < dochstader@shaw.ca >

2) Kiki (San Felipe RV/Motel) Kiki's e-mail is : <kikimr.baja@hotmail.com>

I may make another final comment regarding this project in a week or two on this forum and then will close my efforts to use this forum for awareness regarding this project so as to not overstay the topic's welcome.

Thanks for your support and interest.

Ged

Has anybody thought of corporate sponsorship involvement? Off-road racers all know Coco. The big money people behind them could be solicited for donations in return for signage.

It would be a way of "giving back" to the people/community that provides them the venue for their races.

Just my dos centavos.....

Nomads,

I spoke with Murray (contribution co-ordinator) last night about the "corporate sponsorship" suggestion, and he indicated that Sal Fish is on his list to call.

If anyone has been to Coco's Corner, you will appreciate that he has nothing against corporate sponsorship, stickers, and brand advertising;D

In one of the following pics, there is a MacMillan sticker....and in another, a wheelchair (not sponsored....and not what he needs)
