What It's All About - NOMADS4NIÑOS GOLF TOURNEY & FIESTA

NOMADS4NIÑOS GOLF TOURNAMENT & FIESTA
Saturday, April 5 @ Baja Country Club

You’ve been seeing occasional messages about this event over the past several weeks. As the date is coming up quickly, please take a minute to find out what this is all about.

Several months ago, this was nothing more than friendly round of golf amongst some “internet friends”, Baja Nomads (www.bajanomad.com). Then it became a Golf Tournament for members of the Baja Nomad message board. Several Nomads visited our area for Dia de los Reyes to deliver toys and provide a small fiesta at India Bonita for the kids who were victims of the December mudslides, as well as the many children cared for Agua Viva Guarderia. The Golf Tournament then evolved into “Nomads4Niños.”

The focus became Agua Viva Guarderia. And to make sure we can raise a good amount of money for this great cause, both the Golf Tourney and Fiesta are open to the public. You are welcome to be part of both events, or just come to the Fiesta!

The Golf Tourney will be a shotgun start and is a scramble format. You don’t need your own foursome (though you can certainly create your own!) We’ll team you up with somebody interesting. “Opening Ceremonies” at 8:15 a.m.; Tee-Off is at 9:00 a.m. Your $55 entry fee gets you a cart, range balls and all the goodies that go with the Fiesta ticket! And we have LOTS of great prizes.

The Fiesta will start around 1:00 p.m. There will be lots of great food including tamales, salads, BBQ Basque chorizo sandwiches, burgers and more. Chef Chema (formerly of Restaurante 623 in Ensenada) will be serving up raw oysters on the half-shell with mezcal, Thai spring rolls and octopus Ceviche. Your $10 donation gets you all of that AND 2 beverage tickets, 1 raffle ticket, games, live music (a professional mariachi singer AND a band), and a shot at the piñata!

In addition to all of this, we will also be holding a silent auction with some fabulous items including original artwork, beach house rentals, restaurant and hotel gift certificates and much, much more, so don’t forget your checkbook!

You can register for the golf tourney simply by sending an email to docdockerty@msn.com. Please include a phone number as well as the names of anyone you want to play with. Also indicate how you would like to pay (we take checks, pesos, US $, and PayPal).

To purchase Fiesta tickets, please contact bajamigo or bajabound2005. We encourage you to purchase these tickets in advance, so we are sure to have enough food and drink for everyone!

A little bit about Agua Viva Guarderia – This is a day care center and feeding program for the working poor. Most of these adorable kids have parents out working in the fields surrounding our beautiful Punta Banda. Because of Agua Viva, both parents can be out earning their meager living. Jon and Arlene Reynolds, with the help of a minimal but dedicated staff, care for 15-30 children daily and serve 30 – 60 meals a day. Children of school age are provided transportation to and from school. And there’s much more that you can read about on their website, www.aguavivadc.com

Agua Viva has no permanent source of funding and relies entirely on donations. Donations build the buildings, buy the food, pay the staff, pay the electric, propane and water bills, put gas in the vehicles to get the kids to and from school, maintain those vehicles, etc, etc.

Your support of this very worthy cause is much appreciated. ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO AGUA VIVA. Thanks to the many, many donated goods and services for this Nomads4Niños event, that means nearly ALL of the money raised will go to Agua Viva.

Because we have so many generous sponsors (and more added to the list every day), we hate to mention them here for fear of omitting someone. We’ll make that a separate message altogether, but you all know who you are, and you need to know that your donation will touch many little hearts out there. So, THANK YOU.

And thanks to all of you who will be participating in this fun day! And yes, your kids and grandkids are welcome at the Fiesta!

We went over to the CC and checked out the venue today. It's great. lots of tree shaded grass and a small clubhouse with a kitchen and one bathroom. I think some porta-pottis are in order. Plenty of parking and no unrelated traffic. A great location for a fiesta.
