Nefarious plot to hijack Baja California giant Tuna(s).
Nefarious plot to hijack Baja California giant Tuna(s).
I was amazed to stumble across two individuals at the Pyramid Resort plotting to attack the Tuna pens, nets, circles just off the coast at Punta
Salsipuedes. These two avid fisher folks had been stalking the pens and had a detailed map of the circles, how and where the zodiacs were launched
and the times the mother ships made their security rounds.
They were quite excited and after hours of stalking each of them had come up with a plan to snatch one of the thousand pound tuna (read $8,000.00+).
One had decided to use a kite and fish from the cliffs….The other had decided on a helicopter to snatch one directly from one of the pens and fly off
in the dark.
Listening to each of them and watching as they drew detailed plans on napkins showing the possible lanes of attack. I quickly determined that while
they both might be world class fisher folk they had consumed more than one shot of tequila beyond the realm of reality.
I am sure that if you review the pictures posted by both “Boss Doug” and David K you will be able to identify one of these desperate Nomad
characters…looking closely I am sure that you will be rapidly find his female plotter…formerly only a lurker whom I am told will become an active
poster as a result of being exposed to folks, like the lead plotter while meeting the numerous, fun loving Nomads, while attending the last book
signing event this past week. Heck they are even captured in the pictures of the event.
I will tell you I was concerned enough to delay my departure from the Pyramid by a few days to make certain that the attack would be thwarted before
they could damage the reputation of fellow Nomads.
So okay! A last clue…one of them has sworn off tequila tasting contests in the future!
I had a ball visiting with so many friends and meeting a few new ones…but damn! I spend a week at the Pyramid and a couple of days of those stairs are
okay…but seven days of them left me with, almost, not being able to get out of bed this morning...hips and knees got a real work out…but hey! I did
‘lose’ three pounds.
Looking forward to exposing any potential plots next year. So…be on notice that I will be ever vigilant in my efforts to protect the collective
reputations of my fellow Nomads.

I usually strike up a deal with the pen workers - beer for bluefin. The bluefin are usually 30 to 60 lbs.

Picture them in the stocks with placards under their chins proclaiming them "Nomad Poachers."
Then decide if I did not save our honor..........such as it is!

Why do you think she moved to Ensenada? Maybe she's in on it! Probably the brains of the outfit.

THAT is the craziest fish story I've ever heard...my question is if the pens were well lit, how did they crash into it? No one on watch? Sounded like
the mexican navy actually got them out of their predicament...no?

Yeah, at the end of the post they thank the Coast Guard for their help, including saving them from being boarded by the Mexican Navy. Huh?
Sounds like the tuna pen guys, rather than having to open and repair their pen, wanted to tow them into Ensenada (40 miles at 2-3 knots), but the
Mexican Navy says, no, we'll cut them out NOW and let them loose. Sounds like a good deal to me.
The only problem they might have had with the Marinas was that they were possibly over their limit on tuna.
But there is a lot of paranoia and little trust among the folks crossing the border to fish up that way.
But there is a bigger issue... posts on Allcoast talk of a new US federal rulemaking by the agency "regulating" offshore oil rigs. They want to allow
them to be converted to fish farming. And the govt is looking into large offshore leases (privatization) for fish pens. All with large exclusion
zones. Private boaters already report long line hazards in the SOC. Gonna get crowded out there. Boaters beware.

So it's OK to steal fish? 'Bout the same as taking oysters from a leased reef or pulling catfish out of a private pond. Not legal. The government should not be in the business of selling public property without the
publics permission.
