I understand that the crossing at Tecate opens at 5:00 am. Does anyone know if you can get a tourist card that early, or do you have to wait until
later that morning.

Your best bet for a quick tourist card is to go to www.discoverbaja.com. Become a member ($39.00), fax them your US passport copy, pay the fees (around $20.00 for the papers), and have them mailed
to you. Or you may go in person to the Discover Baja office in San Diego.

That is conveniant if your a member, but you still HAVE to validate the FM-T (tourist card) upon entering Mexico.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

Nothing against Discover Baja, but $45 EXTRA just for an FMT?? I'd rather pay that Migracion ******** in Ensenada 5 bucks extra.
Don't know the answer to the original question, but you can get (and pay for) an FMT 24/7 at San Ysidro, Tijuana.

I showed them my Tousist Card (from Discover) at the border and the just waved me on. At GN they stamped it no problem, you don't need to even show it
at the border.

Border opens at 6:00AM. Immigration usually not there that early but sometimes as early as 7.

Thanks, all. Tell me, is the Tecate immigration office open on Sundays? I imagine that the bank across the street is closed on Sundays. So what's
the best way to work all that?

I don't know about Discover Baja
There is a trip report thread that indicates you cannot get an FMT in Ensendad.
The IM office at TJ hours are 7 to 12 and 2 to 5 last time we were through in Oct. for one, this based on the Bank hours to pay for it.

Ok. Maybe it's Tijuana for me. But "Baja and Back" say the FMT / bank at the crossing is 24/7, while Gadget says it opened at 7:00 am. Can
someone clarify?

No....Nobody here can clarify because nobody here knows what the Mexican time schedule is for any particular day.
Why don't you just plan to hit the border at what we would consider business hours and conduct your stuff in comfort, then hit the road. Quit trying
to organize Baja around your needs. Organize your needs around Baja. It's a unique schedule.

It's not a rule, it's a suggestion, and a very good one. Baja moves at Baja time. There are no "simple" answers for many Baja questions.

It's amazing how some people can sit back and hold court without knowing what's going on. You know, without knowing the back-story. And they're so
quick to jump to the safest, or worst, conclusions.
I understand all about "baja moving on baja time." Got it long ago. Kind of like bowel movements, huh? (Sorry, couldn't resist) But sometimes,
every now and then but not too often, you find yourself in a situation where you gotta pull out the maps, furrow the brow, and then set the alarm
clock. I understand you're not aware of all the facts, but this one's just a little different, Bullwinkle. OK ??

I pass through the Tecate crossing frequently. I always pass through around 8 am. Immigration officer has been in his office everytime, at that
time. If the bank across the street is closed (and it has been sometimes in the middle of the week with no explanation and always on Sunday), the
immigration officer will stamp my visa with a note I haven't paid. He has told me to pay at my destination (Los Cabos in my case) as soon as I get
there. I have done that with no problems.
I believe the immigration office in Tecate opens at 6am. If I crossed at that time and the officer wasn't there yet, I suppose I would wander around
town, buy some coffee and relax until he arrived. I would be on Baja time.
