2008 Baja 500 (Link to Official Results added)
We arrived late for the Baja Pits meeting yesterday, but chatted with Carlos about the course... which STILL isn't posted on the SCORE web site (as of
this morning).
For the first time in many years, it will go into the desert: from Ensenada to the Pine Forest then over The Summit and drop down into the desert to
Cohabuzo Jcn., to Borrego Wash, back west via San Matias Pass, NOT go down to Mike's Sky Rancho, west to the beach then back north to Ensenada.
Scroll down to see the course map, added... and a link to the live-action GPS map so you can follow your favorite racer around Baja!

Sorry I missed you David, I left about 11:30.
Entries are pretty light at 271 when I looked yesterday. Last year for the 500 at this time they had gone over 400.

Elizabeth and I wanted to visit with you and Leslie... but between Saturday morning routine and the traffic from Oceanside to El Cajon, we didn't
arrive until about 12:30. We were surprised that Roy wasn't still there... but we did have him here for dinner the other night when he brought the
photos up for me to post. So, we had a chance to get up to date on Roy's trip then.

Edguero, no map on SCORE's site this morning... However, if the race pops out from Valle Trinidad to cross Hwy. 1 just south of San Vicente heading to
the coast... then it would indeed pass through Ejido Erendira on the way north to Ensenada, if it follows the beach.

From a very reliable source, the race WILL NOT be going through Santo Tomas. There would be no way to run Erindera without doing S.T. Course
slightly bypasses Mikes and heads back to Ojos. This is why it is headed over the Summit to Cohobuzo to make the mileage.
The treats from the cops there regarding the Riviera TT were stated as a concern.
Go to racedez site to research that whole story if interested.

Looks like a fun course. Not much new stuff. Coming up the hill to San Matias I think hasn't been run in a while. Not much hwy, which is good. I can't
remember the last time they ran the summit in a 500 race. They were going to do a loop by going over the summit and back up a lower summit just to the
south in 95 or 96 but didn't after a lot of racer whining about how tough it was. I preran it in my Toyota and a motorcycle and later did the reverse
loop on a Honda Trail 110. Have to admit I did bulldog the 110 down the south summit cause the brakes and small tires didn't work too well on the
steep sections. They haven't finished at the convention center in a while either, usually the baseball statium.

If my math is correct looks like about 140 truck/buggies entered so far....seems like a low number......

I think it will be a while before we see 400 entries again. Housing construction is way off and the publicity about the kidnappings and shootings in
Baja don't help either. By race day if they can come close to 290-300 I'd say that's good. I think in the early to mid 90s entries were down to low
200s for a while.

I will be racing the 305X bike from RM 105-205 and then the 254X bike from RM205-270 and RM405-Finish.
I hope I see you out there. It's been a while since I've seen you and Elizabeth. I think the SF 250 in 2005 down at my dads house maybe was the last
time.
The 305x bike wil be using Baja pits so if you are there say Hi.

Hi Paul,
It would be neat to see you race, for sure!
Elizabeth and I are taking a 4 day beach vacation over Memorial Day, which is the weekend before the Baja 500. Because of that, I kinda doubt that we
will come back south 3 days later.
So, we both wish you much success on your rides!
If I am looking at the map correctly you will be riding bike #305X from Nuevo Jcn. to Borrego Wash.... AND bike #254X from Borrego Wash to Valle
Trinidad and hopefully remount it for the final run from Ojos Negros to the finish line!!

I hope I will still be in the pit when you come by. I was out of the pit on rescue and recovery for almost the entire race when we pitted the 1000 in
05' at this location.
Hope you guys all take it a little easier this time till you get past us.
We'll be looking for 305X!
