wanting whale trip by bus - info?
Hi everyone - I'll be brief. I'm taking my 2 girls (ages 9 & 12) and their mother for their first time to Baja in mid-Feb. We hope to get to a good
whale-watching spot (San Ignacio or Scammon's Lagoon?) I'm having a hard time getting good specific info on whether/how we can easily do a bus trip
in relative comfort, and if there will be a lack of moderate accomodations available. Any recommendations/suggestions would be appreciated! (We'll
leave from San Diego.) Would like to know best locations/where to get buses/what type/camping & accomodations/cost/transit connections etc. Thanks!

To do it by bus, you'd need to bus into the nearby city, then arrange for a tour company to transport you to the lagoon.
Scammon's is a little ways out of Guerrero Negro, and San Ignacio Lagoon is quite some distance from the town of San Ignacio.
Accomodations in Guerrero Negro are more plentiful, but in higher demand, as it's closer to the U.S. border.

specific bus schedule info
Thanks for the above replies! Unfortunately, we can't afford the $1800+ per person through Baja Expeditions, and I'm not sure about the other post
(private van?). So I'm still planning on taking us via public bus.
I have learned it is approximately 13 hours bus time from Tijuana to San Ignacio. What I really need to know (the Mexican ABC (Autotransportes Baja
California) site is "under construction") is what times the buses leave from Tijuana going to San Ignacio - and especially, whether they go all night
or I have to stop en route overnight for lodging.
I plan on leaving from Tijuana sometime Wednesday afternoon February 18. If an overnight on the bus works, so much the better! Thanks again for any
input!

The ABC bus runs from the border at Tijuana all the way to Cabo San Lucas very day. I talked to the peopel at ABC. The bus leaves from teh border at
1AM, 3PM and 6PM. The AbC bus terminal is about 500 feet from the border crossing, on the West side, with a laerge white-lighted sign on top, behind
the buiding where you buy insurance and the American Hospital building.

transportation to san ignacio bay
I was in san ignacio 6 weeks ago(late march), and from what a local told us, there were few whales left(they migrate to alaska in the spring).
the trip to san ignacio bay(30 rough dirt road miles from the village), local whale watching tour companies (about 2 of them) offer the ride round
trip transportation, from $40 to 100$ a person depending on how many people sign up(and this doesn't include the $50 whale watching tour)

You will need to first get to Tijuana and take a cab to the Bus station (Central Camionera), theres 3 buses that leave to southern Baja each day, one
in the morning around 10, another in the after noon around 2, and the last one at night around 8.
Theres only one bus company that goes down to southern Baja, the name of the bus line is ABC.
A one way trip to San Ignacio will probably cost you 50 dollars, and be prepared to spend 12 hrs on a bus, the Buses are not that bad and have TVs and
Restroom, my suggestion is that you add up the cost's and compare it to the cost's of renting a small car and driving down, it might just be cheaper
to drive down instead of taking the bus.
