Anyone headed to Gonzaga or Mallarimo this weekend?
Been gone from the US for 2 years (in Thailand) and have been dreaming of Baja this whole time. Want to re-visit Bahia de Gonzaga this weekend and
likely drive on to Vizcaino penninsula specfically Mallarimo a few days later. Leaving late friday nite or early saturday morning (sept 6th)...umm ya
that's bassically in 24 hours from this post, just thought I'd check in here anyways.
I realize it's short notice but all my friends in LA flaked out so I'm traveling solo and would love to meet up for any leg if anyone's hitting either
of those spots in the next few days.
I've done Mallarimo beach with only one Jeep through the canyon route and didn't have a hard time at all, but didn't stay long enough to really check
it off my list so I'm going back.

BTW if anyone has any tips on where to get a cheap or temporary SIM card for my phone, would love to have a data plan too to upload geo-tagged photos
to picasa/google maps and check email.
(Though I don't want to be getting calls from work)
In addition if anyone has tips on any good beach spots for fishing in the area (I have no boat).

ps here's pics of the last trip to Gonzaga as well as the last trip to Mallarimo. Errr, I never filed the trip report for Mallarimo as I should have,
but was on a plane back to Thailand so quick I never had a chance.

Just great photos and a real fun time is seen!
You will want to hook up with Ken Cooke and his Jeep Rubicon group (they allow non Rubicon Jeeps and Toyotas along, too!)
Drove south to Gonzaga and on to Coco's (closed) and Hwy. 1 just four days ago! See the Nomad Baja Trip Reports forum.
Would like to go to Malarrimo someday... The name is MALARRIMO: MAL = Bad, dangerous. ARRIMO = To get near, approach. The area can claim ships in the
shallow shore as well as vehicles in its quick sand!
Thailand is also on our to do list... I have a friend from Thailand who has been growing guavas and other exotics in San Diego County for the asians
here... now has a great Thai restuarant in San Marcos. Anyway, will try and go next time he goes so we have a persional guide!

You have a friend growing guavas here? That would create quite a chuckle in Bangkok..the word for guava is "farang" which is also the word for
foreigner, so a farang growing farang is almost as funny as a farang eating a farang.
If you search on my public gallery in the previous link you can find a beach trip to the south of Thailand too.
Anyways, got the roof rack welded back on (sheared off on the Gonzaga trip last time, that Puertecitos trail is no joke) and starting to pack up the
Jeep.
Got sandals, a straw hat, fishing rod, something or other for sleeping in, and a chair, can't think what else I need...oh ya some cervezas on the way
there.
Back in 10 days (if all goes well).

Farang (guava) probably because this popular fruit was introduced to asia from South America... very foreign!
