Best Dominican-era resources?

Have not seen this:
THE PENINSULAR CALIFORNIA MISSIONS 1808-1880: A Trinity of Reports
by Weber, Msgr. Francis J
Los Angeles: Msgr. Francis J. Weber, 1979 Preface by Doyce B. Nunis, Jr. Los Angeles: Msgr. Francis J. Weber, 1979. limited to 300 copies. Translation of three period documents (circa 1808, 1865, and 1880), providing differing insights into the problems that faced the Catholic Church on the Baja Peninsula from the Dominican era to diocesean status.

The Central Desert of Baja California : Demography and Ecology
Aschmann, Homer
This one is a jewel but I don't know if it will serve your purpose:
An important multidisciplinary study (historical, anthropological, and demographical) of the interaction of man and nature in the central desert of Lower California. The book contains a great deal of information on the early Franciscan and Dominican missions in Baja California and the impact of European contact on the region's aboriginal population.

This is from Dawson's Baja Travel Series readily available in libraries but is a little skinny:
THE MISSIONS AND MISSIONARIES OF BAJA CALIFORNIA:
92pp, illus, folding map. Baja California Travel Series, vol 11. Jesuit Era, 1697-1767; Franciscan Era, 1767-1772; Dominican Era, 1772-1856; etc.
Weber, Francis J.

For post Jesuit history: Maybe add 'The Missions and Missionaries of California. Vol. 1: Lower California' by Zephyrin Engelhardt (c1929) <I don't have this one yet>

Also, 'Baja California and its Missions' by Tomás Robertson, c1978 La Siesta Press

The book Neal mentioned (The Peninsular California Missions 1808-1880)...

Also, the Lower California Guidebook (1956-1970 editions) or newer Baja California Guidebook (1975, 1980 editions) has brief but important mission facts from historian Peter Gerhard.

In Zephyrin Engelhardt's book, Section IV covers the Dominican Period in 14 chapters [pages 555-714].

Definitely worthwhile, not so scholarly that it's difficult to read, and often available at libraries.

Do you read Spanish?

Choral Pepper had done a lot of exploring and research for her 1973 & 1975 updated 'Baja California' book of missions, historic legends, etc.

In her (yet unpublished) last Baja book, she went into even more detail on the missions. I may end up posting her new book chapters on the mission here, someday. I have already posted a few chapters in the Nomad Historic Interests and Literature (this) forum... scroll back over the years of posts here!

I would really enjoy that! I love that little book of hers, the one with the cover you posted. So interesting and entertaining. If you have time, could you post the chapters of the unpublished book?

Amy

Thanks Amy! Sure... I will be getting back to work on her book soon.

Have you read the chapters I already posted in the Nomad Historic Intersts and Literature forum?

Here is Choral with Erle Stanley Gardner in Baja, the mid 1960's:

Have you seen the web page http://choralpepper.com ?

Here is Choral when I was visiting with her about 7 years ago:
