Pot-Laden Ultralight Crashes Near US/Mexico Border

Second Such Attempt In Last Two Months
Workers reporting to their jobs at a southern Arizona vegetable farm made a grisly discovery Monday morning... and authorities responding to the fatal crash of an ultralight aircraft then found something else.

Reuters reports field workers near the town of San Luis found the wreckage of an ultralight aircraft at around 7:00 am Monday, with the body of its deceased pilot inside.

When officials arrived to investigate the accident, the team found several bundles of marijuana tied to the aircraft's frame. Border Patrol agent Laura Boston said the pot bundles weighed 141 pounds in all.

Officials say they will conduct a full investigation of the accident... but given that San Luis is less than a mile from the US border with Mexico, investigators believe they have a good idea where the pilot came from, and why.

"Police are continuing their investigations but ... we assume that the pilot was headed up from Mexico," Boston said. "To my knowledge this is the first time we have seen marijuana smuggled in an ultralight."

According to the Border Patrol, this is the second attempt by smugglers to fly pot into the US in as many months. Billions of dollars worth of illegal drugs are smuggled out of Mexico through Arizona each year.

Sounds like either a weight and balance problem or a density altitude problem........either way, it's self correcting.
