BajaCactus / El Rosario

Hi...

First af all, let me tell you that we have been in Baja for a very, very, very, long time,
so if there is anyone who needs any information about El Rosario, or even
from any place in Baja, please let us know and we will gladly try help you out.

Now, for some introductions...

We own the Pemex Station at El Rosario, and also the small motel next to
it, formerly known as "Servicio Meza" and "Motel El Rosario".

In october of 2003, as a prelude of things to come, we integrated the two bussiness
and changed our name and image to "BajaCactus Tourist Services".

We have been in bussiness in this town since the beginnings of the 20th
century (around 1902). For the last 10 years we have been working very
hard in establishing a better quality of service on our bussiness. As a first
result we finished the gas station, and are still working in new projects.

Now, after 2 years of planning and constructing, we are about to finish
the 1st stage in our motel, with 16th very, very different kind of rooms; and
for now we will also keep 6 of the old ones, giving us a total of 22 rooms.

Our web site is not yet developed, we will work on it as soon as we have
advanced a little bit more in our plans.

For now I can tell you that all of our new rooms will have 29 inch tv's
with satellite channels(9), phones, in room internet access (through a LAN),
air conditioning (hot and cold), fans on the ceilings, orthopedic deluxe king
size beds in all our rooms and of course all the usuals (hot an cold water,
amenities, 24 hrs front desk services and security, etc.).

We have already finished 4 of this rooms (one bed) and the reception.
These are already in operation.

We are now capable of taking VISA and MASTERCARD debit or credit cards, as
well as AMERICAN EXPRESS and CITIBANK travelers cheques, at both the gas
station and the motel.

For a time, we will keep very low prices on these new rooms, as a promotional campaign (around $30 usd per night), so you are all invited to know our new services for a very low price.

We would love to hear your comments and/or questions.

Thanks.

Antonio Mu?oz

Antonio. Welcome to the board. I guess the question that I have is if adequate steps are being taken to protect the ruins at the two mission sites in town.

Hi Bajacactus--hope your motel venture does well. Was wondering what the progress of the golf course was and what effect you think it will have on El Rosario. Thanks.

I would happily give San Quintin a miss and drive the extra 30 odd miles to El Rosario . . . that?s where (my) Baja starts!

Ed from El Rosario

Yep, we got Ed's card as well, from Ed hissownself.
Baja Vida and I met him at the City Hall where he had gathered up a Kawasaki 650 which had been involved in a nasty crash the week before, right in my rear view mirror, very scary but that is another story.
Ed was holding it for the guys from Canada to come and retrieve it.
He has started his place just on the South end of town, right side headed South. It has a very large Starbucks Coffee sign painted on the wall.
He and his Mexican wife are hoping to start up their place.
Seemed like a straight-up guy.
Told us to stop off next time down for a real cup of coffee.

Is it near the little gift shop/museum/map store run by that nice American lady who builds houses?

El Rosario

Thank you all for your warm welcome....

Academicanarchist: unfortunately no. No one is taking any steps (as far as we know) to care or protect those ruins. Is really a shame because those ruins are a part of the history of Baja, and no one seems to care. It is sad. By the way, a local History Society is being formed right now, If you want, I could put you in contact with them.

Mexitron: Thanks. The 2 gulf courses you talk about are a part of the Project Diamante del Mar (a piece of the Escalera Nautica). The project contemplates an airstrip, a marina, 2 gulf courses, a couple of first class hotels, 1,500 cabins among some other things. The airstrip is already finished, however the rest was stalled because some land disputes in that area. They are trying to solve them right now. About the impact on El Rosario. I believe that, when completed, it will be an economic explossion over there. Just imagine, with all that economic inversion, it will be great. All that development is really on the outside of town, so I think that El Rosario as a town, will be able to keep very much alive the feeling it has now.

Surfer Jim: I do know them, but recently I observed that the restaurant they opened, is being taken care by another couple from town, they say they own the place, so I do not know if Edward leaved town. Have not seen him recently.

David K.: Are you talking about Kim?, a very nice ladie who is an artist, arquitect?

DK, since I have never tarried any longer than necessary in E.R. I don't really know the town, other than the Pemex and, years ago, Espinoza's.
However, the "Starbucks" place is on the right as you are headed out of town, Southbound. It is pretty close to the edge of the builtup town area.
Edward sort of had that 'wandering' look to him, we commented as we left him that he looked like someone who had sort of appeared on the scene and might just as easily unappear.
But, he was a very nice guy...

Bajarunner, Can you give more info about the bike accident? My Baja bike is also a Kawi KLR650 and over the years I've met many of the guys who ride there regularly including several from Canada, just hoping it wasn't one of my buddies and that severe injuries weren't involved.
Thanks,
Kurt
