BAJA 1/09... So super fine! Part 1: Baja Lou's Turkey Feast
This was to be the final New Years Eve big turkey feast hosted by Baja Lou and Teina... we attended one three years ago, and didn't want to miss the
chance at one more... one last time!
We left San Diego North County Wednesday morning with some bakery goodies for the feast and arrived at Lou and Teina's just after noon and quickly
found TW and Shirley who saved us a place at their table.
Lou and Teina greeted us along with a couple hundred other guests. Soon I spotted El Camote, Wendy and their son, Charlie. Not long after we arrived,
The Squarecircle (Roy) and Blanche showed up.
After enjoying all the good food we spotted BajaRob and Connie (who invited us to their Bahia Santa Maria home for the evening). Great weather, great
people, great food... It was Baja, afterall!
I thought I recognized someone I met at our 2004 Matomi Gang group camp... he was wearing dark glasses, but I called out "Rudy... Rudy Lopez??" Yup,
it was Tunaeater's dad... COOL!
Rudy was excited in a recent purchase of beach property out on Punta San Fermin (near where Arroyo Matomi reaches the gulf coast). Rudy told us where
the road was and invited us to camp there "whenever you want". We would check out 'Camp Whenever-you-want', the next day!
After the turkey meal and visit with Nomads there, we headed south of San Felipe. The exchange rate at the gas station was 13.00 : 1 (pesos to
dollars), GREAT! About $2.16 a gallon... more than at home ($1.79), but not bad!
Before going to BajaRob and Connie's, we drove out to Shell Island for a quick visit to our favorite Baja camping beach... nobody else was there...
and the weather was just fantastic! No wind, not cold for December 31st, great!
A few more miles and we were at Bahia Santa Maria and had a great time sitting around the beach fire in front of Rob & Connie's home with some of
their fun neighbors. Sipping tequila, drinking cerveza, lots of good times...
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
That's BAJA with BAJA NOMADS... Viva Baja!
Continues with Part 2...
Enjoy the photos:

Yes we were there!
Parked & set up near the Cuban Music vehicle so evidently we missed seeing a lot of people. We have attended all but one of the Turkey Feasts at
Lou & Teinas house. It has been a good Fiesta every year, But I'm sure lots of work for them. They wll now get a chance to enjoy bringing in the
New Year at someone elses Casa!
