road to the death

Greetings from Kansas.

My wife and I will be escaping the heat, staying in the East cape for a week in mid-July. We're renting a Ford "Eco Sport" "SUV", and I want to do a little exploring. Wondering about road conditions from San Antonio up to the Bahia de los Muertos area, and what's happening there, then back down the coast to Los Barriles. I assume the "SUV" is 2WD with some clearance.

Don't know about...

the road conditions from San Antonio, but as for what's happening there, well, I was stunned in December of 2002 to find they were constructing this Giggling Marlin at Ensenada de Los Muertos. It also appeared that they were trying to develop this area under the more appealing name of "Bay of Dreams."

And they were much friendlier

when it was Bay of the Dead rather than Bay of Dreams. That place is history and now, a waste of a drive if you are looking for remote beaches like that used to be.

Herb, how did you attach your photo without it saying "Herb has attached this image:" All of the others have that and this one doesn't. It also pops up instantly and doesn't need any download time. How did you do it?

Go--have good time

Let me get this straight--You are going to the east cape in july to "escape" the heat. The road from san antonio to bahia de los suenos is in great condition. wide and graded. The road returning via the coast route is another story. I would not attempt it especially in a rental vehicle, they are not equiped for an emergency. There are lots of nice beaches in the area between suenos and the lighthouse and farther north to la ventana. Go--have a good time but bring your sun screen because it will be hot. fishin rich
