Where am I? Friday Photo Guess
This one is easy, but I am trying a new way to post photos (ala Herb) and some assistance from Doug... if this works, this is easy and uses no Nomad
space! Thank you to Baja Bush Pilots for the great photos!

I typed Gonzaga but meant San Francisquito. That's what I get for answering from work. The dead give away is the protected cove up the runway. and
the long arc of the steep beach by the "hotel."

Maybe Doug or someone else could clear this up for me but...
if you post pictures this way aren't you stealing bandwith from the picture hoster on the original website.
Should you do this without their permission?

I think you and the boys are the Greatest and I read most of your stuff.
I may be wrong but.....read this link
http://www.wordworx.com
Your picture does not provide a direct link to the bush piolts website thus it fits this informational data.
Keep posting all your great stuff..

The content one uploads to their own website, thus publishing it, is copyrighted material. Most webmasters/designers have a Copyright symbol and
message at the bottom each page. There are ways to disable the right-click functionality used to save images from the web, but it's just about
impossible to prevent this practice completely.
Just because something is up on the web, does not mean that anyone can download it and use it as they wish. It is copyrighted, protected material.
Technically, if you use a photo from someone else's website, you have to have permission from them.

Bob & Susan...
On the question of "bandwidth", you might be confusing that with "traffic".
Let's say for the sake of argument that 100 people have viewed the photo in question here on this website (Nomad) instead of the one where it resides
(Baja Bush Pilots?). That's 100 less clicks for them, and if they advertise there, 100 less people that will view those ads.
So yeah, it can make an impact.

No, I may be wrong but this is the way I see it.
The owner is paying for the bandwith to have his picture posted on the internet.
A second person "hotlinked" it to another website.
The second website is using the bandwith for free.
It's kinda like plugging in an a light to your neighbors outlet and taking some electric power.
If all the neighbors do it..pretty soon you will blow a fuse
It's not the picture it's the way it's posted.

This from: http://www.afan.dk/hotlink/
"Hotlinking aka Direct Linking
- and why it is wrong and rude
Hotlinking is when someone links to an image on another server - for example:
On this website, www.aaaaa.com, the pictures would usually have a similar url, like www.aaaaa.com/picture/mypic.jpg.
Hotlinking is if the picture is fetched from someone elses website instead. The pictures would then have this url:
www.ooooo.com/pictures/mypic.jpg.
This means that the owner of www.ooooo.com is billed for the traffic each time someone views the picture on www.aaaaa.com - and that is very close to stealing - making someone else bear the expense for showing the picture on a website not his own.
People tend to do it a lot in livejournals and forums - and now and again, one finds a website where ALL the pictures are hotlinked - GRRRRRR.
I prefer to think the best of people, so I think people hotlink mostly out of ignorance, and this page will try to do away with that ignorance.
I have no problem with people using my images for personal use, but please don't use my images on other websites without my EXPRESS PERMISSION. If you
ask permission, I will probably let you use my images on your own website (credit and linkbacks are nice). ...."

Thanks for the links. If indeed Baja Bush Pilots wants people to go to their site to generate more traffic, then instead of posting the photo itself,
I will post a link. The photos are great for us earth based Baja travelers as we don't normally get to see Baja from above.
Anyway, not wanting to 'steal' anything, I have emailed the owner of Baja Bush Pilots and asked him what he wishes. I will not remove the post above
until I hear back from Jack. If and when I do remove it, this entire thread will disappear...
Thank you for letting me know this may be uncool.

Bob & Susan, Sin Nombre, and others...
I received an email today from Erik McCormick of the Baja Bush Pilots http://www.bajabushpilots.com granting me permission to show photos from their site (with their name, as I have done). A Cc was sent to Doug (Baja
Nomad). Erik added he likes my web site and looks forward to seeing my new links. As JR would say, the guy is real 'human'.
I want to thank you for showing me what a hot link is and why any of us should get permission when doing so, from the owner of the site being hot
linked to.
