OT alternatives

Lets see what Nomads think:

\"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened\"

I never go on off topic.
What is it and why is it even necessary?

From another thread on this topic. Bottom line, however, is that it will require resources no matter what.

My reasoning is that if there are two off-topics, a moderator would only really have to monitor the polite one. I get your point, but it just seems to me that there are a number of Nomads who are somewhat bi-polar- in that they often post interesting and informative stuff on the regular board, but for some reason become raging idiots in off-topic. Obviously, stronger monitoring of the current off-topic would work.

VOTE FOR OPTION #2!!!

Here's my POV, thanks for asking (you didn't ask? I'm sure you meant to...)

Anyway, I think that there is a need for the current nasty cesspool of Off Topic. I have checked it out and I don't feel the need to go again. But many of you have made excellent points regarding censorship and the need for cesspools. So I think that we should not get rid of the current OT.

HOWEVER, it certainly would be nice to have an off-topic forum that is not a nasty cesspool. If Oso had posted his excellent "lighthearted look at the universe" in the current OT, most of us would never have seen it. I would love to see a "Warm and Fuzzy Off-Topic" category for those who would like to share a fun video, or cute pictures of their pets, or a good story, with other Nomads.

Mark just discovered Ken Cooke's awesome Latin Music thread in Off-Topic. This is a great example of something that could be in a new W&FOT. Most people probably haven't seen it because the current OT is a scary place, and many of us are afraid of it!

So, to reiterate, VOTE FOR OPTION #2!!!

Totally agree. Ken's thread, along with so much else should be accesible to people who don't want to have to be subjected to the nasties.

:lol::lol: Funny.:lol::lol: Ken's thread is every thread. That's today's problem. He's saturating the OT site as a childish response to other's opinions.
Ken's a good guy but, he's killing the OT forum.
I have no idea why he considers his efforts worthwhile. They arn't.

I disagree. There is value in what he is doing. Interesting tactic. At first I wasn't impressed but I've changed my mind.

The poll offers odd options. There should be only one yes/no question.

Should the posting rules be applied to off-topic? yes/no

If a moderated off-topic is created, I see no reason to keep an unmoderated off-topic. Are there any good reasons?

You're right. It's just another time consuming job.

After pondering the situation throughout the night, tossing and turning, a viable solution came to mind and it's not new.
Just open a forum on the main board that is not Baja related. This has been requested time and time again. Perhaps, with the climate of the OT in complete disarray as it is today, the idea will carry more weight and, should it happen, Oso's thoughtful posts and Ken's music will have a safe place to be seen and heard without floating around in a pool of cess.
