That Road from Puertecitos to Alfonsina's
Driving in tomorrow to Alfonsina's at Gonzaga Bay via Mex 5 and That Road south of Puertecitos. We last drove it at the end of May. Can anyone give
me some G2 about it that is up to date....like in the last month or so?
How much grading of the old road is there through or on The Tres Marias?. How many miles south of Puertecitos does the pavement go. But, most
importantly, have they graded some construction road that replaces the old climbs up and down the Tres Marias just north of Huerfanito?
We made it from Alfy's to Puertecitos in about 2:15 last trip...what will it take this time?
Really appreciate any valid and up to date input.

Jeeeeeeeezo, that same trip usually takes me upwards of 5 hours. You is FLYING.

I did it in 2:00 from Gonzga to Puertecitos, in a Dodge ram 1500, I almost kill my truck..
BAJA IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO BE, FUN,DANGEROUS,INCREDIBLE, REMOTE, EXOTIC..JUST GO AND HAVE FUN.....

As you guys know....you gotta know the road. There are places down in the flat from about Punta Bufeo to about Huerfanito that you can go 30 + MPH if
you know what you are doing and if you have a lifted truck with BFG TAs or equivalent etc. It's better to go this fast there than to sit "down
inside" the 2 inch washboard if your truck can take it and you know the road...ie. where to slow down. There are lotsa other places where you need
to go about 5-10MPH, obviously.
We have a Toyota Tundra 4X4 that has been up and down those 50 miles about twenty times in under 2:30 and hasn't even developed a squeek......good
truck.
We have flown the trip to Alfy's from San Diego or Sacramento about once a month for the last 30 years. We have been driving about half the time to
haul stuff in for the last six or seven. We've come to know the road....and to kinda love and hate all at the same time. When it's gone we're gonna
miss it!!
I'm interested in whether or not the construction activity has graded some of those very, very bad places so the construction crews can pass......we
don't need a paved road...just one that ain't full of big round and/or sharp rocks

Wayno (BBBAIT in Blythe) just sent me photos and reports the pavement is now over 9 miles from Puertecitos (Cerro Prieto/ Black Mountain)...

I went through in April so it sounds like you have gone since I did. No help, I know....But, could you try to snap a few photos if possible? I will be
going through there in November and am interested. Thanks and have a great trip!!!

Pavement now 10 miles from Puertecitos
This photo taken behind Cerro Prieto is where the pavement now ends... 10 miles south of Puertecitos / 35 miles from Gonzaga Bay... An end of an
era... soon! (well, in a few years at this rate)

Thanks for the pics...any advice on decphering how far we can go and more importantly...spotting the dtours that will lead us back to the old
road...we're going back down for some kayak fishing at Gonzaga over Halloween weekend

how far you can go? I have driven through the construction five or six times since it started and I have yet to ever seen the road completely cut
off. if there was a real detour it would be one HELL of a detour. but it can be confusing...they don't sign it (a shock in mexico I know) and you can
take the wrong spur roads near the construction and hit dead ends but you simply turn around and find the right one...eventually someone will wave you
to the right road...I would bet it is very confusing (dangerous) at night but none of us would do that, eh?
the one pic though by david k gives one thought. it appears to be on the grade above the tidal flats just north of black mountain...not a fun spot
without construction! not sure how they have that designed so that you can still get by them.
can't wait for your reports!

dizzy and redhill... just so we're clear, the photos were taken by 'bbbait' (Wayno) as I said above the first photo. I was last south of Puertecitos
nine months ago and the pavement was only 2 miles south... They are averaging about a mile of paved road per month... at least in that difficult
terrain.

NO, it is NOT TRUE...
I DO HAVE PERMISSION FROM WAYNE, AND I NEVER POST ANYONE ELSE'S PHOTOGRAPHY without permission or without credit to them. In fact, I have plenty of my
own photos and it takes some work to put photos up... So, it is usually done BY REQUEST from the photographer. I am happy to post photos for Nomads
who can't...
Baja Nomad is a place to share and learn about Baja... It is pretty sad that some use it to try and defame or run off those who are sharing and
exchanging info here.
Please worry more about yourselves and less about my friends and I who understand each other and freely help each other to have fun and enjoy Baja.
Another thing, anytime I take someone's photo, they can let me know if they don't want it shown on Nomad or my web site and I will be more than happy
to not post it. MOST (99%) enjoy being seen or seeing other Nomads... Kind of makes us more 'real' than just names or handles behind a keyboard. All
anyone needs to do is ask me.
