A hard task you have taken on.

Do you have a monetary goal that you are shooting for?

If so, where are you in contributions ($) and how long do you have left.

A running total of contributions may help you along. Not sure how you would use third party software to keep current on the board, but sure there are some very smart people out there that could help

Wish you all the luck in the world and a Merry Christmas for all the little folks that need some love and attention very much at this time of the year

God bless you and for those who don't go that way, thank you for being a human-being

This year we do have a monetary goal and that is because we received sponsorship from the Corona Plaza Hotel in Rosarito to have the event there and also so the kids can have a day out at the same time. We started with 257 children, now it's 262 and I don't know how many more (I was told it would not be more than 400, wow), because they will be from diferent areas, diferent Casas Hogar.
The goal is to also feed these kids one meal each consisting of tamal, beans, rosca de reyes and drink (usualy hot chocolate). I am yet to get a donation for the rosca de reyes wich does'nt worry me much since some super markets have them on special by the 10th of Jan. The meals are another story, plate, fork, cup, napkin, tamal, beans, chocolate is at this time, already placed in Rosarito $30 pesos per person, I'm barganing so we are at 7,860.
For transportation we have 2 big buses sponsored for about 65 kids each plus 2 adults so that is 130 of them already aken care of. I am yet to get another 2 and if we get no sponsorship it would be 4,000 pesos round trip each.
We have to provide diesel for the two sponsored buses wich I have no clue how much that is and food for the drivers.
The other thing is toys, we need lots of them and last year we were short and purchased 20 dolls and some cases of small toy cars.
So, at this point 7,860 food
8,000 transportation
? Diesel
? Rosca de Reyes
? Aditional toys.
Received:
2 of $25
1 of $10
1 of $20
3 of $50
3 of $100

Not many toys.

Agree totally, it's painless to give via the internet using PayPal and I think just about all could afford $10 USD.. :o:o

Saw the stats, there are over 5,000 members.. pretty sad showing in my book, only around $500 dollars.. for all the "Baja Nomads" .. :(:(

Just do IT!! you will feel much better and the "kids" will too... :saint::saint:

Just go back to page 2 of this thread to see some photos of this event in the past and there are links to more---read the story about the red bike.

As we have in the past, we are having our son buy more toys for this drive as his Christmas gift to us---others have done the same thing. In addition to seeing the paypal account soar, we hope to see the Christmas tree at the drop off spot in Chula Vist with piles of toys.

It is tough as there are so many places of need, but just a little from all active Nomads will make a difference.

For those not familiar with paypal, it's been around for a long time. It's now owned by eBay. 73 million accounts. Paypal accounts are handy things to have.

Since a lot if not all people that frequent or participate on this board will be getting gifts for christmas at Toys R Us, Walmart, Target and other stores. Why not, if at all possible, purchase a gift card for the toy drive, in any ammount and send it for the toy drive?
If you think this is a good idea, U2U me for an address were to mail it.
Fernando

Ferna when you said ' THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD NOT BE MORE THAN 400 KIDS", I thought this was your event and that you pick the number of kids..
That to me seems to be a high number of kids if we take in consideration that this will be possible only with contributions from this website IMHO..

PS. Hi hope we had the means to make all the kids happy and not have to send some without a present or bike , maybe then the kids number wouldn't be factor. But the reality is way different from what we want..

Now this is a good idea Ferna. Very easy to buy a $12-$20 gift card and mail it. Would work for those who feel uncomfortable with the Paypal thing. Also, many folks will get these cards as gifts -- why not do a little 're-gifting'?

# 1. It's not my event. Never has been.
# 2. Proverbs 3:5-6
5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

The only number one should concern themselves with;

Will the children have a Merry Christmas...

Seems like only one day out of a whole year should be possible...

Let's give just a little, to afford the little ones, just one big day of "magic".. show that someone really does care about them..:):)

I was going to send you a couple of war bonds, Gull. I'll see if I can find a card from Sex Toys-R-Us.
