This is what you get from YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn3JB51NH_M

This is how you post it on the forum:

[flash=425x344 ]http://www.youtube.com/v/hn3JB51NH_M[/flash]

You will notice the watch and ? have been removed

The v will now be against the / as /v

Make sure there is another / after the v like this /v/

Remove the = and leave the rest

Make sure there are no gaps

How come this doesn't work? I think the question is how do yo get the actual video to appear in the post, not just a link.

This code is correct except for [flash=425x344 ] Take out the space before the closing bracket.

Picky computers

Santiago, make sure there are nooooooooo spaces between letters numbers or symbols.

Note: I intentionally left a space bewteen the bracket and number. Otherwise the video appears.

How come this doesn't work?
Because of the space between "344" and "]".

This is correct.

For some, it might be easier to simply get the link from the youtube page where it says "Embed" (see attached screen capture of a Youtube video page, showing this box).

If you select the box and copy the content, you'll get something that looks like this:

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hNJIJbQ1T_U&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hNJIJbQ1T_U&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

The link you need is where it says 'value=':

http://www.youtube.com/v/hNJIJbQ1T_U&hl=en_US&fs=1&a...

Everything after the first ampersand ("&") are just options, like US English for language, and rel=0 means to not show related videos, etc. You can just pluck the following out of it:

http://www.youtube.com/v/hNJIJbQ1T_U

(or use the whole thing previously noted if you want to keep those particular options active)

Some videos have different default sizes. The one I copied above has a wider perspective than the normal youtube videos. With this one, you'd do this (but remove the extra space I'm leaving:

[flash=560x340 ]http://www.youtube.com/v/hNJIJbQ1T_U[/flash]

Which yields this when removing the space:

This will not work with youtube videos noting "Embedding disabled by request", such as with this video from Universal Music Group:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKm-jt7-kHw

Thanks for all the information---will the same thing work for other videos like on Yahoo from a news organization?

And, if you try to preview it before posting, will it show?

OK, I did not use google, but this is easier.

Thanks

Only if they're providing you a means to embed the video on a third-party site.

I did not know the answer to that until just now. I went and tried it - and it does show up in the preview.

Doug,

FYI, the video you posted does not work for me because of copyright restrictions that preclude it from being distributed outside the country.

Interesting. First time I've seen that on Youtube. Nothing wrong with the code, Youtube is checking the requestor IP addresses.

You can't to the best of my knowledge becasue it it takes far too much bandwidth (basically websitememory). Best you can do is post a nice blue link people can click on.

If you can see my videos- there is no restriction for Mexico as m ISP is telnor. You always need to be careful about background music on any video you post- that is where you run into copyright problems.

If you can click on and see this video- posting and viewing from Mexico is no problem:

A Baja Nomad in another thread put up this link.. it blocks the determination of your location by your IP. You can watch Netflix and other sites which do not allow cross "border" usage.

Here is their link to download.. plus it's FREE...

Just 1 character (or lack of) is all it takes to screw up code.

It's a computer/ Internet thing... just learn the tricks and it is easy.

TAGS: You need the wrap the You Tube URL in tags [flash=640x480 ] (no space) at the front and [/flash ] (no space) at the end of the URL.

MODIFY: Remove the watch? from the URL and replace the = with a /

Example: Here's a short You Tube showing my Tacoma pulling a stuck 2WD Tacoma up the Diablo Dropoff grade in Borrego Desert...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m1u1pba4Ps

Remove the watch? and replace the = with a / :

http://www.youtube.com/v/9m1u1pba4Ps

add the tags on each side (first set will have spaces added to show the link, followed by the video itself...)

[flash=640x480 ]http://www.youtube.com/v/9m1u1pba4Ps[/flash ]
