PARADISE ....FOUND!

Well, blow me down and call me a Zen Buddhist.

Let me explain. I'm on a walkabout heading more or less North from Baja and just stumbled onto this mystical Shangri La the other day. It is leading me to a Nirvana-like state of mind, deeply peaceful. In fact a state of pure and lasting happiness has set up camp in my brain. Granted it found lots of room...

Nirvana

The Buddha described Nirvana as the perfect peace of the state of mind that is free from craving, anger and other afflictive states. The subject is at peace with the world, has compassion for all and gives up obsessions and fixations...after a fashion.

Hey, I'm with Bubba..er, Buddha..on that one.

The cause of this euphoria? Where is this Shangri La?

Easy question.

It's right off I-15 in Nevada.

.
.

OUTDOOR WORLD - LAS VEGAS

It was like coming out of a fogbank on the Cortez. Up ahead was this ray of sunlight beaming down on this mecca for outdoorsmen. What a magnificent sight! Indeed, it was akin to finding the Holy Grail.

I felt an immediate uplifting of my spirit. Co-pilot called it something else, but she is being censored.

We approaced reverently and humbly entered the place of worship.

We are now pretty much in a state of grace. I take a deep breath and get out the plastic.

I am slighty overcome with emotion and seek comfort in the men's room.

Ah sweet refuge.. this is the best decorated men's room I have ever visited.

Re-entering the temple I admire several game displays. These mighty ELK fight for the right to mate. Hmm..Co-pilot reminds me that I am too old for any more bar fights.

I gaze upward and give thanks to the fish dieties.

Overcome with devotion and a sense of peace...not to mention a receipt that would balance Congressional spending...we leave the OUTDOOR WORLD.

I unerringly re-trace our path by using tracking techniques I learned from several Rodeo Drive scantily clad pedestrians...

..and... by following these convenient fish shapes
...

.

THE END.

WE SHALL RETURN TO SHANGRI LA..AND THE STATE OF NIRVANA

I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

OK...A visit to that place and Cabela's are on my Bucket List. I'll go to that Fried Chicken Ranch or whatever it's called while I'm there.

Glad you found it, Roger.

You must have followed their footsteps.

Her wanderings didn't stop there, however. She went on to 'Father Knows Best'.

Chicken Ranch Is Way Out of Town

Just wondering, what with the obvious overhead, if prices were anywhere close to competitive. Guessing not. Just another example of the gap between the haves and have nots today. Great pix, Roger.

If you forgot something, or changed your mind and gotta have that new reel, there is one more on 15 South near San Bernadino.

BTW you have the best trip reports.

I've been to the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor world here in SoCal and also in Denver.
Fantastic... but a little expensive. But you can just go in and walk around for free!

I'm sorry Pompano, but you need a good tasering for revealing the location of Shangri-La!

Ok, so I used it as an excuse to taser you. Will sorry do?

Hi Pompano,

My reaction was very similar the first time I walked into the Bass Pro Shop in Nashville, TN. It was amazing!

I'm definitely putting OUTDOOR WORLD on my list of places to see next time I'm up that way...It looks WAY BETTER than Bass Pro Shop!!!!

PS: I've been LOVING all the pictures you've posted lately!!!

Should have known... and I'm crazy at the crap tables.. just love the action, much fun and every once in a great while I used to win.. been a long time for me at this too... :):)

And to have had a place like that right next to the tables and money in my pocket.. it would have been a lot of fun..
